Very bland and dull large shopping mall. We decided to stay in Gurnee based on the Outlet Mall being there and were very disappointed in the style, lack of colours and general feel on neglect. It was the week before halloween and we thought that...More

Gurnee Mills is the second largest shopping mall in Illinois, after Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and ahead of Oak Brook Center in Oak Brook. While purists might argue that it doesn't have as many big-name brand businesses on the marquee, they would have to agree...More

Open every day from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. When Gurnee Mills opened in 1991, it was just as large and exhausting -- but WAY more interesting.....and had WAY more bargains. It actually caused the demise of another nearby shopping center. (Alas, poor Lakehurst!) Nowadays,...More

Gurnee Mills is for the most part indoors and all stores connected. There are outlier stores and restaurants as well that are not connected and you'd need to drive over to those e.g. Portillo's.

Gurnee Mills and area? (6 Replies)
My friends and I are thinking of coming to the Chicago area next weekend to celebrate my birthday. We've been to the Woodfield Mall area and really liked it, but we're trying to find someplace that maybe we haven't been. I've heard Gurnee Mills mall is great. Are there many other things in the area to do? I'm thinking restaurants, movie theaters, anything like that. How does it compare to the Woodfield area?

The mall itself is great and has it owns theater Marcus Gurnee Mills. Mostly chain restaurants nearby and, of course, Great America, which will have Frightfest going on. Otherwise, don't think there is much else there. Different than all the stores, shopping and restaurants by Woodfield. It sort of depends what you like. Another idea might be Long Grove village, I've never been but heard it is fun, too. Happy Birthday, whatever you do. Always the best to spend it with friends, isn't it?

Getting to Gurnee MIlls (6 Replies)
Im going to Chicago for a few days in December and really want ot go to Gurnee Mills. I believe its a bit of a trek but checked out the trains etc and doesnt seem that bad. getting a train to Waukegan and then a taxi to Gurnee Mills and the same on the way back. I am just wondering does anyone know how much a taxi may cost from Waukegan train station to Gurnee Mills? will there be many taxis in Waukegan train station or will there be a problem? would people recommend going to Gurnee Mills?...More

IMO, it's not worth the trek to Gurnee Mills. You'll spend a good part of your day commuting back and forth. There are several outlet-type stores downtown such as H&M, Filenes Basement and TJ Maxx. However, if you decide to head up, there's a taxi stand (rank) at the train station. If there isn't a taxi there when your train arrives, call American Taxi (847)566-3131. I'm guessing the cab fare will be around $20.
