Inconsistent food quality

The food tends to be a hit or miss experience. I’ve had pretty nice appetizers, but the mains have been just average. The Northerner flat bread was just ok. The mushroom burger was too greasy. The kids burger was terrible; too herbal for anyone to eat. Overall, not a bad place to eat, but there are definitely better ones in Grayslake.

Solid food and beer
Dec 2019
Went here for lunch on a Friday. Greeted by friendly staff and told to sit where we wanted. It's a big open space, so on a colder day, it was a little cool in there, but I bet it warms up quickly with a bigger crowd. They have a small, but decent menu. I had several things that were possibilities, but I ultimately landed on the Italian Beef sandwich. I liked it - good sized, flavorful. I had sweet potato fries on the side that were also decent. My wife had the gluten free flatbread and she liked it as well. As for the beer, I did a flight of four beers. I would say they were all OK - nothing I disliked, and the NE IPA (Depth Effect) was quite good. It is on the pricey side, but I don't mind supporting a local place. A good visit.

Food surprising good, beer fine
Sep 2019
Went for a couple of brews - Peach sour and a blueberry wheat ale - and checked out the menu, which features everything from snails to bison gyros! We enjoyed the fried green tomato BLT and the mushroom and swiss patty melt - both really delicious.
Large room, friendly service (thanks Kathryn!) and sports on TVs. Fun place.

First time for food, not rushing back anytime soon!
Aug 2019 • Family
Started off by not having the sandwich in the menu that I ordered. Went with my second choice...Worst “Italian Beef” sandwich I have ever attempted to eat. In addition to completely falling apart when I picked it up, The meat, not sure that’s what it was, tasted like rubber and I couldn’t even bite through it! Ordered a beer off the menu, didn’t have that either. One of the Kids had a decent burger while the other had the giant pretzel which was shared. The pretzel and fries saved this “meal.” #not impressed

Worth the Trip!
Jun 2019 • Solo
I live well over an hour from Grayslake and stopping here made the commute 100% worth it. I am a vegetarian and I was blown away by the choices and even more how delicious and fresh my food was. I ate there and then brought TWO meals home with me to enjoy through my work week. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and not annoyed with my 20 questions. Comfortable enviroment, nice decor. Large open space but the acoustics are great-not loud at all. Enjoyed a beer that was fantastic as well (couldnt try too much since I drove). Def stopping in again next time in the area.

Average beer
Jul 2019 • Couples
This was our first visit to this brewery. We were happy to see that is was a quiet night, no crowds to compete with. The beer was average. However, it was not very cold. The service was seriously lacking. Not once did a bartender check in with us (seated at the bar). Nearly all of the employees were congregating in a corner. I have to say, the food and cocktail menu looked impressive. As for the reviews about cloudy beer - We were not at all intimidated by the look of any of the beers as we are experienced beer drinkers.

Needs Work
Jan 2019 • Friends
For an Establishment that purports to be all about hockey & brews the interior lacks memorabilia, art or signage revolving around the sport. Needs better lighting & ambience.
The drink menu not related to beer or wine is very limited. You’re not getting a Tito’s or Crown Royal on the rocks. However the Old Fashion & Sidecar are made with top shelf ingredients.
Food was very good. Not typical sports bar fare. Pot roast tacos & Waygu brisket burger were very good.
Will give it another chance.

Good Beer and Good Food
Jan 2019 • Couples
Located in Grayslake this place has local brews with a food menu that is wrapped around the beer. Started off with the chips and dip as an appetizer and a "half pour" on a local Pilsener. For an entree I got the Pot Roast Taco's which was very good and went well with the choice of beer I got. Lot's of beer to choose from and three large screen TV's on the wall. Service was good and the place was packed . . . no wait time at around 6:30 on a Friday night. Reasonably priced entree's for about $12 to $15 and $3.00 for a half pour on the beer. This place is worth a stop.

Lacking in restaurant service and hospitality
Dec 2018 • Couples
Food was mediocre although the descriptions seemed very unique, most of it was fried and overcooked. We specifically ordered appetizers but they were delivered after our main course. Service was below average, did not feel like a guest or cared for as a customer. Service was clunky in terms of standard expectations like having silverware, refills, napkins and all food items that were written on the menu. They also have a limited amount of menus so my wife and I had to share a menu, then it was taken to another table once we were done with it.

The atmosphere has a lot of potentially but is mostly unfinished and missing the homely date night feel that is expected. A friend coined it the best when he mentioned that it feels like an unfinished project done by college friends.

My wife and I were looking to try a different place to eat in Grayslake but it will not be our first dinner option going forward. It might have been a great bar at some point but now that they are expanding into a bar/restaurant Light the Lamp is missing many of the essentials of service, hospitality and well cooked menu items.
