Working Jetty in a Beautiful Spot
Jul 2020
Southend is about 20kms south of Beachport and is the location of one of the largest fleets of Rock Lobster fishing vessels on the Limestone Coast. Hence the jetty is a working jetty during Rock Lobster season.

The jetty is hooked with a section at the end for offloading Rock Lobster catches. The surface is uneven and the day we were there the seas were rough and winds high. Hence I did not venture too far out on the jetty as there were signs warning that the jetty was slippery when wet and the waves were breaking slightly over the jetty. There is no beach either side of the jetty as it is built into rocky areas. It would be have been great to walk all the way out and look back at land with the sheer cliffs – perhaps another time.

The car park is of a reasonable size with a boat ramp near the jetty. Toilet facilities are also available. As you turn in to the jetty precinct, there is a lobster processing plant on the corner.

Although no fishermen were there, the jetty has a reputation that includes Salmon, Garfish, Tommies and Whiting. So may take a rod next time.

Return? This is a picturesque part of South Australia, so would love to revisit.

Caravan park holiday
Dec 2019 • Family
Loved our stay (6 nights) we had a good space and adult children coming and going. Beautiful beaches, and walks - we stayed at the caravan park (not our families first time, sorry to hear that it is to be decommissioned). The Managers were lovely, fair and reasonable - and it was a relaxed, casual vibe. People behaved, there were lots of children. Dogs were allowed, and that was managed well by most.
Thank you to our hosts

Mainly for the Pro Fishermen

Interesting to walk out onto when the Crayfish boats are offloading. Fishing from the jetty itself is not that good but a true fisherman knows it's not the result that counts, it's the experience :)
