About
Step back in time and experience the 1907 Frank Lloyd Wright renovation of the Fabyan Villa in Geneva, Illinois. Owned by Colonel George Fabyan and his wife, Nelle, the Villa and estate were home to a wide variety of eclectic collections, from taxidermy to Samurai suits, and sharks to mummies. Live animals also lived on the estate: monkeys, alligators, and bears. The Fabyans were more than just wealthy eccentrics—they also funded scientific research, including the earliest code-breaking research in the United States. The estate also holds a historic Dutch Windmill and Japanese Garden, owned by the Fabyans.

Nice place
Jan 2021 • Family
It’s right along the river. Easy to park. A trail for walking. It wasn’t all that crowded. Overall a nice place.

Not open in the winter
Mar 2020 • Couples
As the weather was so nice the first weekend of March we looked on trip advisor for somewhere to go and decided on Geneva. We are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright and when we read up on the museum it said it was open from 11am so we where looking forward to seeing the house. When we arrived it is actually closed in the winter opens May so we were disappointed but the park is beautiful and we had a great walk around seeing the windmill and Japanese garden. We will go back in the spring/summer to visit the museum.

Worth a look
Nov 2019 • Friends
We visited in November so the windmill and museum were not open, but we were able to walk around and it was worth it. The windmill is impressive and there is an outside display that tells the history. The Japanese garden is across the bridge and is beautiful when in the late fall.

Fantastic Windmill
Sep 2019
The restored 19th century windmill is one of a kind. Col. Fabyan spared no expense in making the windmill one of the best in the world. Free tours by well informed docents are given on weekends, May to October. I highly recommend this site.

Limited hours
Aug 2019 • Couples
The Japanese garden and the museum have limited days and hours they are open which is quite disappointing. The grounds are quite nice and there are plenty of picnic areas to use. It’s nice along the river.

Well-designed tour of a midwest historical marvel
Jun 2019
Visited the Fabyan Villa Museum with my wife on a vacation weekend in Geneva, Illinois, and experienced an extraordinary tour of the museum, its historical significance and architecture by a volunteer staff. We learned much about Frank Lloyd Wright's design as well as the Fabyan support of the U.S. military in times of war.

I should have consulted Trip Advisor!

The Villa was closed today. I wanted to show it off to my husband after my friend and I visited last summer. How surprise we were to see it along the river bike path...a great stop. The Fabyan's were collectors, some would say hoarders, but their collections of Chinese art, birds' eggs, and a ton of other stuff make for an interesting display.
The grounds and gardens along the Fox River are beautiful. Pay for the docent's tour. It's worth it.

FABYAN Forest Preserve and Villa
Apr 2019 • Friends
This is a local former estate now owned by the Kane County Forest Preserve. Tours are run by a local preservation group. Interesting slice of history from Colonel Fabyan hosting WW 1 code breakers to his collection of scientific interests. The grounds are spacious on both sides of the Fox River and includes an island crosses by foot bridges. The Japanese Garden is awaking from its winter slumber.
