We didn't know what to expect. It wasn't a "big stage" performance, but it was "down home", comfortable and fun. Songs were great and Jim's a great storyteller. Definitely worth the money and we'd go back. One of the better things to do in Galena!

We greatly enjoyed our evening seeing the Mark Twain show in Galena. Mr. Post does a wonderful job entertaining the entire family with his songs and lively stories of Mark Twain. Our 10 year old loved the show as well as my parents.

We enjoyed the Mark Twin show. Nothing fancy, but it was an interesting evening. There are few simple forms of entertainment like this anymore. Go to hear the stories and songs, and be transported to a simpler time.

I have been to every U.S. state and every continent in my 92 years. A few years ago while visiting my son in the Chicago area, we decided to drive over to Galena and stay at a World Mark time share there. We were fortunate to discover Jim Post doing his Mark Twain gig. (He now is in semi-retirement and only performs on an irregular schedule). I found the whole town and the surrounding area to be my favorite small town of any I have vacationed in. I always admired President Grant and really enjoyed the way the town is set up like it was when he lived there. You can take a steamboat ride on the Mississippi River and relive Mark Twain's experience as a captain of a paddlewheeler two centuries ago. Or you can visit the riverboat casino, one of the small but worthwhile museums, or just relax and eat at some of the better eateries I have discovered in my travels. I have been back three times over the past few years with various friends and have never been disapointed.

May have been an off night for the storyteller at 111 Main, but he had a tough time staying on track the night we attended his performance, often remarking that he forgot where he was. His singing was great and parts of his story were quite catchy, but wouldn't go again.

This show has not existed since summer 2018. Do not add it to your list of things to see! The restaurant may be nice but we didnt stay to find out.

Jim Post and I have aged together. He was a mainstay of my Earl of Old Town/Old Town School entertainment and delighted me again some years (decades?) ago with Galena Rose. Unfortunately, his Mark Twain performance was mostly flat with just a few bright spots of the clever and witty Jim Post. The bright spots, however, were eclipsed by the flat ramblings of someone who likely chose to indulge in adult beverages before the show. I so wish he had been on his game................

We saw this Sept. 10, 2016. Jim Post arrived 5 mins late show was suppose to start at 7. For the first half hour he rambled about politics and his "girlfriend" and sex life. OMG! Seriously? We kept thinking is this guy drunk? We wanted to leave but didn't want to be rude. Wish I had been rude! When he finally started the show 30 mins. late, he kept loosing where he was in the script, kept asking us if he told us this or that story. Was completely lost. The only plus I will say is that he does have a good singing voice, but not worth 50 bucks to hear. Finally this monstrosity got over and we fled captivity! Don't waste your time and money!

What I learned from this whole experience is that if you want people to remember your life story after your time on earth is over, you need to run a show where you impersonate a popular, but dead(untraceable), character...

He came into the room rambling about politics and his childhood, which I thought was an excellent way to start the show in character. Unfortunately it was too late before I realized that he just cemented his own life story into what little brain memory I had available for the evening - and he did it by dressing up like Mark Twain, forever crossing the wires in my brain.

At this point I knew it would be a struggle to unlearn the wrong facts. Although I was willing to try, I think the presenter was onto me, because he began adjusting his shirt by putting on hand down his pants. on stage. While facing us.

Touche Mr Presenter...Touche. Not only did you take my money, but your brilliant ploy has caused me to irrevocably associate your childhood, and opening for John Lennon, with Mark Twain.

Five women in our 50's and 60's visited Galena in mid September. When we travel, we enjoy seeing live theater. Since couldn't find that in Galena or neighboring towns, we chose this one man show for entertainment one evening.

I expect in his younger days, this might have been a very good show. It's time for retirement.

The presentation takes place on the third floor of a building that also houses the restaurant One Eleven Main. (Very positive experience there.) Admission was $28/person. (too high for what we got) The doors open at 6:45 with the performance to begin at 7. You do not get a ticket or any other sort of entrance coupon. You just show up and go in.

The "theater" is a large room with a small, slightly raised stage and chairs arranged in a semi-circle in front of it. There's a chair and side table on the stage. (The chairs got hard by the end of the presentation.)

Jim Post (the presenter) arrived late and proceeded to ramble on about a variety of of things while he set up for the show. He had a guest take his CDs, etc. to a table off to the side and then asked that same guest to take his guitar and banjo cases off the stage and set them off to the side. Honestly, we were about ready to leave before he ever began his show.

He finally got started about 7:15. The stories he told about Mark Twain were very entertaining. But he seemed unfocused and often lost his train of thought, having to stop and question, "where was I?" He also forgot pieces of his presentation and would go back to pick them up. He had some interaction (much of it rather inappropriate) with the audience and laughed when things weren't going just right. At one point he passed gas and went off on a tangent about eating too much watermelon that day.

Now! I am not a Mark Twain expert. Perhaps he WAS in character the entire time and that's just what Samuel Clemons was like. But I don't think so.

Like I said, the stories were interesting. It DID make me want to learn more about Samuel Clemons and reread Mark Twain's works. We laughed ourselves silly . . . but as much about not really believing what we were seeing/hearing/experiencing as at the stories being told.

We would not recommend.
