The green drapes from "Gone with the Wind" are one of the many interesting items on display at this 22-room Italianate-style home. Built in 1857, the mansion now exhibits period furnishings and also includes items from the estate of flamboyant entertainer Liberace.

OK, there is a lot of cool and amazing stuff in this house, and I mean A LOT. This is a private house and they charge $12,75 to take the tour. But I can't call it historical really, there is a bit about the hand off the house from this owner to that, and the current owner is a huge... More

This is an old mansion, but not a restored mansion. All the wood work has been painted. The furnishings are not true to the period. 2 collectors have put so many of there collections in it they have ruined the looks of the home. There are things from movie sets, rare furniture, a Tiffany light, etc. There is so much... More

The home is amazing and has a rich history. Most of what I've learned, I found out through my own research, not the tour. It is privately owned. There are only a couple original pieces in the house. Most of the house is overloaded with a very vast antique collection of the present owner. The rooms are terribly crowded with... More

This is one of Galena's grandest homes, and it has been restored and filled (in many rooms to the brim) with a mixture of antiques (a priceless Tiffany chandelier set) and bric a brac (garlands, drapes from "Gone with the Wind"). You stand in the hallways (with the exception of the dining room) and peer into the rooms. Some of... More

One of the most beautiful house in Galena, it sits in a big lot with a beautiful garden. I did't get to go inside since we got there not in the museum hours. The facade is been renovated so we won't get a beautiful shot.

$12 for a simple 30 minute tour of an old house that is filled with a random collection of old stuff is a wast of money. Photography was not allowed. The whole mansion was not open to the public - only two floors. The place was really shallow when it came to talking about historic Galena. Don't wast your time... More

is what this mansion is now known as. Beautiful home with a lot of history. Great for architecture, antique, and history fanatics. We were bummed that we didn't get to go to the top floor due to fire codes. You can also purchase a combo package and see the Dowling House.

They call this the Downton Abbey of Galena. This grand 1980's mansion is beautiful! This is the home of J. Russell Jones, a steamboat owner and ambassador to Belguim. We enjoyed the story behind this mansion and many artifacts sent here as well. We were given the history on these items. The only kicker is you cannot take pictures inside... More

We love touring historic homes but this was probably the oddest and most dissapointing one we've seen. Athough it was a historic home, there was very little history shared. For example, the tour guides never mentioned that the original owner lost the home due to being found guilty of a "wrongful imprisonment" lawsuit filed after the Civil War ended. (The... More
