My family has a small townhouse in the territory just outside of downtown Galena. We're often looking for things to do when the weather isn't ideal for the pool, golf, or skiing.
My oldest daughter recommended we try a cooking class she attended with some girlfriends a couple months before. I was skeptical because I've done a few higher-end cooking classes before, so I didn't have huge expectations going into it.
As we arrived my wife and daughters informed me that the owner, Susan, was on the Food Network for a holiday cooking show. Upon arrival she greeted us with her bright red hair and welcoming smile. I knew we would hit it off right away.
We learned how to make three different soups using one base and red velvet cupcakes with a cherry filling. I wasn't a huge fan of the menu going into it but, Wow, all of it was fantastic and the way she taught it should be easy to replicate at home.
I would highly recommend booking a class with Susan at the Breakfast Diva Cooking School and look forward to going back again next time we visit Galena!

The Breakfast Diva is very entertaining! We laughed, learned to make 3 breakfast recipes and taste tested. She was very entertaining. The Diva taught us recipes I will for sure make at home. The breakfast was delicious!

Our time spent at the Breakfast Diva was the highlight of our two day girls trip to Galena! Susan is warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. She immediately puts everyone at ease with her funny, honest stories of her cooking experiences in her own family and on the Food Network. The recipes were so impressive...they sounded complicated, but they weren't. If you have two hours, which flies because you are having so much fun, you MUST plan to attend a class. Susan prepared the following recipes: Fall off the Bone BBQ Ribs with homemade BBQ Beer Sauce and BBQ Rub (never thought to mix together my own rub!), Cornbread that didn't crumble!, Refrigerator Pickles (easy enough that I already prepared some at home), All Grown Up Mac n Cheese (that was AMAZING!), a light delicious Coleslaw with Poppy Seed Dressing (I would use the dressing on salad, too), topped off with a Raspberry Panna Cotta (can't wait to impress my family with this one!).
You don't need to come with anything but an appetite! Her daughter, Sara, helps in the kitchen and prepares generous helpings of each dish to taste and enjoy at the end of the class. Since the classes are presentation style, meaning Susan teaches and prepares while you look on from the comfort of your chair. She has paper, pens and water for each student at your place. If you are comfortable, you can be her assistant, but there is no pressure to participate.
Make sure to bring a camera (or phone) to class. We all had our phones and snapped a bunch of pictures. Susan never objected to our silly poses!!
The Breakfast Diva will be a must-do on our next girl's get away!!! Thanks, Susan!

Thank you for your detailed review! Just a comment for those who may be reading this; effective July 15 the class will be shortened to 80 minutes due to guest feedback. THis makes it even easier to fit into your vacation schedule! I can't wait to see you girls again.

My husband and I attended this cooking class. We loved that that day was Chinese cooking since we do a lot of that at home. But we both learned many new techniques and information about the processes. We have stayed at Susan's B&B and she was just as delightful in class as she is at the B&B. She has beautiful personality, is very entertaining and made everyone feel "right at home!!" We'd recommend this to anyone who loves to cook or is just a novice! Just the right amount of audience participation -- and the food tasting was a wonderful experience.

Breakfast Diva Cooking School is so much fun and informative! Susan is such an amazing chef and woman. My group and I loved hearing all of her stories about her life and her time on the Food Network. The recipes were delicious and made with ingredients that you would have at home or at your local grocer. I will definitely be back soon!

My mom, like most, appreciates her time with her children! For Christmas, I purchased a cookbook and cooking class at the Breakfast Diva Cooking School for my mom. A gift we could both enjoy! Participation was encouraged but not required. The class itself was informative and interesting especially hearing about The Breakfast Diva's appearance on the Food Network! During the class, we made three different soups using the recipe for one base, a fancy bread and red velvet cupcakes with a cherry filling. Definitely go on an empty stomach, you'll leave satisfied! Well worth it, and we'll do it again and bring more friends!

We LOVED THE CLASS! First and foremost we were beyond shocked that even though we were the only two who purchased tickets, the class continued! We ended up feeling like we had a private cooking class. Even if the class was sold out, the environment is small classroom environment, which in my opinion is perfect for any cooking class.
The class is very easy to digest and super friendly for people like myself who "fear" implementing a recipe after reading it. Sue is a delight in how she presents the class and makes it simple to understand. After attending the class, I feel confident in using her recipes and frankly all the tips we received for cooking in general.
Sue was a teacher in her previous career, and her skills as a teacher translate seamlessly into any Diva Cooking Class. It is clear she understands, that everyone learns in different ways and she accommodates every learning style. Sue’s ability to be flexible and account for the unexpected, insure any class that you attend will be a delight, both for the mind and belly :)
We attended an afternoon class and made amazing stuffed pork with wild rice, butternut squash and cranberries. The dessert was an amazing pumpkin cheesecake – I am planning on making it tonight…two days without a slice is too long!
Sue, thank you for an amazing class and we can’t wait to join you for another.

Thank you for pointing out that I don't cancel a class if someone has purchased a ticket for that class. It's your vacation and you made plans to come to my cooking class - I am humbled that you chose to spend time with me on your vacation and won't cancel on you! Thank you.

This cooking school was part of our Mother-Daughter weekend to celebrate our daughters. It was great fun, with many new learnings. I think my granddaughters (ages 8 and 10) would also have enjoyed this activity.

It is a pleasure to learn that even a seasoned cook like yourself enjoyed the class and would like to come back. Thank you!
