    Stunning
In this larger space, the displays are gorgeous. Take your time, read the detailed explanations, and pay attention to the fine detailed work. Its simply exquisite, imagine doing this work so many years ago, without the use of power tools. What many of us would think is “just a rock” is transformed by artists into the most beautiful objects.

    Great museum
My expectations were exceeded in this museum. There is a very nice display of Chinese pieces made with different types of stone such as jade. I would say younger children might not like it except for the dioramas. The $10 admission fee is also a good value. And the people working there were all very nice and informative. Definitely worth a visit.

While visiting the far western Chicago suburbs, I had some free time and I looked for something unusual to visit. I hit the jackpot with the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art in Elmhurst. This museum has one of the most beautiful collections of objects fashioned from rock and gems that I have ever seen. Although the theme of the museum is restricted to that medium, there is a wide range of artistic expression from diaramas, cameos, carved vessels and exquisite mosaic pictures that you would easily mistake for paintings to displays of beautiful minerals and agates. If you are ever in the Chicago land area, this museum is well worth seeing.

This is nice place. The first floor is basically a big open room with display cases showcasing the art of lapidary (the art of cut precious stones). Examples range from large Chinese bowls/jars to smaller object of art. When I visited they had a special exhibit on ‘Legendary Diamonds’ which shows replicas of a handful of diamonds such as the French Blue and Hope diamonds.
The lower floor houses the gift shop as well as a larger room where they hold talks and events. The gift shop has a nice selection of items ranging from pricy carved stones to cheap tumbled stones for kids.
On display on the outside of the museum are a few large boulders one of which is a petrified log from Arizona.
It is worth going to see. Admission is nominal and free on Fridays.

OMG! This is a hidden treasure. I learned more of rocks and stones while I was a child walking to school and working at the library nearby.

This is a very nice museum - not too big, not too small. While browsing through some of the pieces, I certainly felt inspired. It was also good to learn about some of the techniques and the properties of the materials used to make this amazing art. My favorite parts were the 3D showcases depicting various scenery and the giant petrified wood piece.

Located near Wilder Park in Elmhurst, Illinois, this is a nice little museum of beautiful carved jade, other hard stones, cameos, dioramas, and much more. The Lizzardro Museum of Lapidary Art is educational as well as unique experience. They intermittently offer docent tours of the different displays. There is a small fee and hours are 10-5 except 1-6 on Sundays. If you like minerals and stones, this is a great place to visit. Near the part could make this a nice day for a picnic and family time.

Brought my aged parents and little kids here. We'd just made it through the whole upstairs and downstairs before the kids got bored, so it worked out for us on a Sunday afternoon in winter!

I went with a lady friend of mine on Friday because we were looking for something to do. We found out that it was free on Fridays so that made us decide to go there. Nice collection of carved stone, rocks, gem stones and etc. We were there about 1 hour which was enough time to see it all...Enjoyable afternoon activity.

This unique museum has closed in Elmhurst and is moving
to nearby Oak Brook. I am not sure when they will be reopening
but hope to visit their new facility.

This items in this museum were originally from the private collection of Mr. Lizzadro. Thank heaven he decided to share this with the public. This place is more than just rocks. There are dioramas made from stone that are just beautiful. I especially like the one with the buffaloes. They also offer classes here. If you're ever in the area, it's definitely worth a visit.
