I have been fortunate in experiencing very many wildlife encounters in several countries in the world and this was without doubt one of the very best. The thing about gorilla trekking is that your are able to observe the gorillas safely at quite short range and are virtually guaranteed to see the gorillas if you book a trip. It is exceedingly expensive at $1500 per person but if you can afford it then it is a once in a lifetime experience that is well worth it. You do need to be prepared though and the day can be long. Whilst the rangers will pretty much guarantee that you WILL see gorillas it can take them all day to find them and it can be a long walk. Basically the rangers know where the gorillas were spotted the day before and know how far that they can travel in a day so know how to track them down. That said, the gorillas can move quite fast and they are completely wild animals, free to roam the forest as they choose so the rangers have no control over their whereabouts. We were very lucky in that the rangers found our troupe of gorillas in super fast time and we only had about a 30 minute trek to get to them. When we spotted them it was just amazing. I think that we were also very lucky in the number of gorillas that we saw - around 20 which included the alpha male, a number of adult females, a couple of junior males and the cutest baby gorilla. The baby was swinging from a branch and putting on a show doing somersaults around the branch. It was one of the most magical things that I have ever seen. We subsequently did gorilla trekking in Uganda which was also very good and much cheaper (only $600) but the experience in Rwanda was much better because the undergrowth is nowhere near as dense so it is much easier to see the gorillas. The rules state that you must keep a distance of 7 metres from the gorillas and you cannot approach them, but that doesn't mean that the gorillas can't approach you. We had a couple that came right by us which I thought was absolutely thrilling. When we got back to our lodge we compared notes with fellow gorilla trekkers and it did sound as though we had been very lucky. Most other people seemed to have had a much longer trek through the jungle to find the gorillas. Overall I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves wildlife, is reasonably fit and in good health.

For over 30 years I had dreamt of trekking Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda. When I finally decided to make the trip happen I spent a fair amount of time on google researching my trip. I am so happy I came on contact with Maggie !!! She was quick to respond and had a lot of information and suggestions. When my son and I arrived in Kigali we were met by Billy and I could not have been happier with our guide and itinerary. Our gorilla treks were worth amazing. Beyond what I had imagined. Billy was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to drive us to stops we suggested. He was helpful in assisting us to sponsor a child at school, and to donate to a local school/orphanage. I will be back, hopefully very soon. Marnie from Canada

We had Jeff as our guide... he looked after every detail from the moment he picked us up. I simply cannot speak highly enough of the personalised service and attention to detail... always with a warm smile. The actual gorilla viewing is unforgettable... literally one of the best things I have done in my life.

We had an excellent experience on the 1-day gorilla trek. We only walked a short while before coming to the gorilla family, and were able to spend nearly an hour with them, observing and interacting with them up close. The group was small (4 total), and the driver and guides were all friendly and helpful, and communication with the company was clear and responsive. Highly recommend!
