The pandemic has not been kind to escape rooms, so I'm glad PanIQ survived and seems to be doing well. Part of the reason may be the attention to story and props. We played the Wizard's Trial; the puzzles were varied and clever - it wasn't just "you walk into a room and there are 6 different combination locks". The space was very immersive - you really did feel like you were in a wizard's castle; we loved the sound effects, music, and cool wands.
I also love PanIQ's policy on unlimited hints. We didn't abuse the system, but even if we had, when you drop a little bit of cash on an evening's entertainment, it makes sense to give you the tools you need to win. Escape rooms that are stingy with hints or drop red herrings to confuse players take note of PanIQ's room design - everything in the room is relevant and they give you the clues you need to succeed. I'm much more likely to come back to a place like PanIQ than an escape room that I never stood a chance of beating.

This was the first time anyone in our family tried one of these logic puzzles. It was a great experience, our guide was helpful, not giving answers but nudging us in the right direction when we we went off track.
My one complaint was the parking. There is no where to park during the weekday. My wife found a lot about a mile a way. A bonus was the Lou Malnati's about a block away. There were also a lot of good places to eat/drink within walking distance.

We wanted a fun activity to do with our young adult kids (ages 20 - 22) that was interactive. We had never done an escape room before so thought we’d give it a try. We did The Mob room and within the first 10 minutes we were all laughing, strategizing and enjoying everyone’s contributions. Highly recommend this activity as a way to bond and just have a good time.

Went on a snowy December night, the building was hard to find without any signage. There is street parking along Lake street, but be prepared to walk a couple of blocks. As far as the staff, some of the most unmotivated and energetic group, I have ever seen. When I called for directions, a staff member told me she was not familiar with the area. When arriving, no one greeted our group. When I saw a staff member in another room, she closed the door on me. When we did start the game we were told you could ask for as many clues you wanted without penalty. We had three people in our group and escaped with 5 minutes to go. We had played the game in Orlando and were excited to play in Chicago, but what a disappointment.

One of the funnest parts of our Chicago trip, was The Mob panic room we experienced at The PanIQ Room (Fulton Market location)!! Staff was friendly, and the activity and planning of clues for our game was amazing! Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Chicago and even locals

Is it claustrophobic?

I don't think it's claustrophobic. They don't actually "lock" you in. If there's an emergency, you will be able to get out without any problem. You are actually watched via camera by an operator. All you have to do is to call out and the operator will respond.

is this a family activity? What ages are welcome here?

Great for families, depending on the room. I'd say junior high age and up. The puzzles may be a bit too tough for anyone younger than that, but since it's a group activity it would probably be fine.
