About Chicago Foodways Tours
Chicago is so much deeper than deep dish pizza! Let us prove it to you on our food & culture walking tours through some of Chicago's past and present immigrant neighborhoods. Enjoy Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and Swedish foods on our popular Saigon to Stockholm Food Tour through the Northside ethnic enclaves of Argyle and Andersonville. Comfort food fans will love our new Little Italy Food Tour in the University Village/Little Italy neighborhood on the city's Near West Side. In addition to enjoying a 6-course Italian menu, you'll get to browse the first rate memorabilia at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. Each tour is 3 and half hours and covers 1 and 1/4 miles of walking through charming Chicago neighborhoods.

Phyllis has put together a tour that highlights the amazing food, culture and history of Argyle and Andersonville. Everything we had was delicious, and the walks between the stops were filled with information on the history and culture of Chicago and specifically these two amazing neighborhoods. We may have misjudged the heat and amount of walking (mom's 82) but Phyllis was wonderful and never made us feel like we were holding anyone back.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed touring Argyle and Andersonville and were so happy to see, taste and feel Chicago as a local. We felt a total immersion into the neighborhoods that we visited and came away with a more holistic understanding of the where/what/why of the neighborhoods. Phyllis was a wealth of knowledge and a great tour guide as we walked through these neighborhoods. And! the food was fantastic. The variety, coupled with Phyllis' explanation of it, can't be beat. A very well spent 3 hours.

We spent 3.5 hrs w Phyllis on this wonderful tour- she had masterfully navigated between multiple curveballs - unexpected rain, street weirdos trying to interfere , longer than Expected lines in one of the shop. All with a smile and continuing to professionally share her wealth of knowledge of the tour participants. The stops on the tour are carefully curated and the entire experience is warmly recommended .

Our guide was passionate about the Argyle and Andersonville neighborhoods, their history, culture and foods. We learned so much and tried a curated selection of Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and Swedish foods, ending with an American classic. Highly recommend. Nice to get to know neighborhoods outside the Miracle Mile area.

This tour is highly recommended for anyone who understands that Chicago is more than the Magnificent Mile and Millennium or Grant Park. Phyllis takes you through just a handful of neighborhoods, but what she shows you is the real Chicago (one small part of it, anyways). Thank you, Phyllis, for your passion for food and neighborhoods! These are indeed the heart and the soul of your great and (sometimes) controversial city :)
