Boarding was late and no-one was at the dock to explain what was happening. We spent very little time on the river before turning round to head up to the lake - then spent a huge amount of time in the lock waiting for the water level to adjust. There really is not much to learn whilst you’re sitting waiting for the water to flow and ebb not to mention waiting for the queues to subside. So unless you’re a huge fan of locks (and quite frankly you’d see more action on a canal) then I’d give it a miss. The trip wasn’t helped by the weather which was obviously out of their control but it had been forecast and sadly they were completely unprepared so I spent the majority of the trip standing and unable to see anything through steamed up windows. It was a cool and windy day, especially when we got out onto the lake, but it was well worth the money. The tour guide really knew her stuff and had so much to talk about regarding Chicago's history, architecture and city features. A great activity for the whole family.

Awesome sight to see Chicago from the boat at night. Be warned though, if you have children with you, they serve alcohol on board and a few passengers were clearly there for a party. And a few passengers got a head start on the party prior to boarding. A fight almost broke out when the boat was swaying and the drunks were falling..The operators are going to suck every dime they can from you by offering alcohol but they should warn the families ahead of time. The drunks ruined the trip for us.…

I absolutely loved this boat ride. I thought it would be really cheesy but it was actually awesome. There's no feeling like being on that beautiful river with the giant skyscrapers all around. Out on the lake the views are beautiful and you get plenty of picture time. The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable, they even sang me happy birthday! There is a bar on the boat too if you want to make it even more fun. I learned a lot about the architecture and saw Chicago in a new light. Also, there's really nice bathrooms and an inside area so it's pretty lux. I would highly recommend!!!…
