This building is close to river, just south in the Loop. It is mentioned during the architectural river cruise for its exterior design. In the middle of prohibition, the building was designed to look like a champagne bottle. The building is great with a tapered gold top. It was finished in 1929 just before the economic crash still it was a symbol to Chicago's feeling about prohibition.

The hotel is a fully reno'd historical building in a fantastic area. It is with a couple minutes walk of most of the Chicago tourist attractions. The staff were very helpful. loved the 'secret' code for the free drink. It added a bit of fun. Loved evfery minute. We stayed 3 nights, wish we had had more time. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a corner King bedroom. Room was very large, had coffee maker and good sized fridge.

Carbide and Carbon Building was designed by the architecture firm Burnham Brothers in Art Deco style, as the regional office of the Union Carbide and Carbon Co. Constructed in 1928-29, it is a 37-story, 503 ft (153 m) high-rise, located at the north part of Chicago Loop.

The two-story base of the building is constructed from a black granite, the tower is cladded in dark green and terra cotta, with extensive gold leaf and bronze trim. The top of the tower is quite stunning, it's often compared to a champagne bottle. The top of the "bottle" is cladded entirely in 24k gold leaf.

Carbide and Carbon Building had gone through multiple ownerships and renovations: in 2004 it was transformed in Hard Rock Hotel Chicago, in 2018 it became St. Jane Hotel, and in 2021 it reopened as the Pendry Chicago Hotel, with Chateau Carbide Rooftop Lounge and Bar.

Located at 230 N Michigan Avenue, this unique and extravagant historic skyscraper looks very modern; it was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1996.

I enjoyed taking photos of Carbide and Carbon Building; even on the late summer foggy days, it is spectacular.

The Carbide and Carbon Building was pointed out on our Art Deco tour, and it is an amazing building. I do not know a lot about architecture, but I did enjoying learning about the historic skyscrapers and at least remembering their names.

Yet another iconic building, art-deco style and reminded me of a mini Empire state building in the style and shape, worth finding and staring up at it.

A beautiful building to explore. It is the black one with the gold top. We enjoyed looking around the lobby area at the cool architecture.

According to urban legend architects of this building designed it to resemble a dark
green champagne bottle with gold foil at the top.
This building is often compared to American Radiator Building in New York City.
It used to be an office building but since 2004 it is a hotel (Hard Rock Hotel Chicago).

You cannot miss this cool example of an Art Deco building right on Michigan Avenue. It is an old and famous chemical company building and has a lot of history.

One of the most beautiful highrise buildings in Chicago. Home of the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Avenue.
