We attended the Joffrey Nutcracker Ballet in this gorgeous theatre. You could purchase drinks and snacks in the lobby, but couldn't take your drink into the theatre unless you purchased a special cup with a lid for an additional $3.00. Just an FYI. Our seats...More

We loved this version of The Nutcracker. We’ve been seeing different versions in different towns for the past 30 years. This was one one the best theatres and versions of dance. The only downside was that one family had 3 young children. One cried a...More

I have attended several ballets (mostly Joffrey Nutcracker) at the Auditorium. This is a history lover's dream. Wood worn smooth wear arms have rested, carpeting a little worn wear shoes have trod, monofilament lightbulbs galore, a glorious creak in the floors. The lobby area is...More

This theater was built by historic architect Louis Sullivan and engineer Dankmar Adler. There is not a bad seat in this large theater. The sight lines are unbelievable and the acoustics are fantastic. We go here for Broadway plays as well as viewing dance companies.

My Music, Art & Food Trip -- suggestions? (6 Replies)
Hello. I will be arriving in Chicago this weekend for 5 nights. I'll be staying at a Club Quarters hotel located north Loopish at Wacker & Michigan, right by the Chicago River. I only got 5 days to squeeze in the good stuff. So many things going on in the city! Maybe there are some good casual eats, small music joints or dive bars a local can recommend near my hotel/area or near the places below? For example, what day below would be ideal to hit Chinatown for some dim sum? I've...More

Isn't the MSI (where the Da Vinci exhibit is) about 5 miles SOUTH of Chinatown? If you're going to have dim sum for dinner, it still goes together fine, but I can't imagine you'd want to go all that way back for lunch. I guess it depends on how much time you want to spend at both the MSI and Chinatown. On Wednesday &/or Thursday I'd highly recommend exploring a Chicago neighborhood - Lincoln Park, Lincoln Square, Wicker Park/Bucktown are all good choices. If you search in the box above...More

First time in Chicago. Am driving from Canada to see a concert in mid-june. Could anyone recommend a hotel around $150 per night that has parking and is within walking or an easy El ride to the Auditorium.

Response fromCitylights|
Probably the closest would be the Chicago Hilton and Towers. Actually, the Congress Hotel is across the street from the Auditorium, but it's shabby and has had ongoing labor problems with picketers in front for the last several years. Just about any hotel in the Loop or North Michigan Avenue area would be no more than a 5-10 minute train or bus ride away. If you post your dates and the amenities you want, I'm sure someone can steer you in a direction.

Where is the concert? Where are you staying? How many people? What is your price range per person (prior to tip, or including alcohol and tip)? Any food allergies or Cuisine that is absolutely out? The more relevant information you can provide the better answers you will get.
