Great local place

We went to Underground on an open jam night - the musicians were constantly changing and made the whole experience great. The music was fantastic, and always entertaining.

Huge disappointment, they advertised Vegan friendly menu as well as live music, uh, kitchen was closed, chef quit, they mentioned there was a venue next door that had " bar food" burgers wing etc, the food was terrible, the live music was equally bad. An expensive lesson for sure.

Went there with a large group, apparently the cook quit that day so there was no food although the menu offered vegan and non vegan choices which was why we went. We were told to order food from the restaurant next door which sent the worst food ever!! The drinks at the Wonder Bar were not worth it either! Chicago... More

My husband and I went here on a Friday night around 10:30pm. We paid a $15 each cover charge. At first when Lonie and her band started their set on the main level, I didn't think it would be my thing, but once they got going, it was great. One of the bartenders, who was also the trombonist and a... More

Calendar on the website advertised music from 12:30-3:30. Yeah, not so much. The old place delivered. The new place disappoints

Wow! What a fantastic night!?! Live music that kept us moving until the early hours of the morning. One of Sven's favourites in Chicago and now one of Gwen's also :) Such a wonderful way to experience the city's live music scene.

The new one somehow...doesn't match to my preferences. I loved the reggae nights - sundays. Loonie Walker and her sons ar ea very creative people I like smoked jons and other talented Chicago blues men.

We visited this bar while on a 3 night break in Chicago. We intended to listen to the 8 - 10 pm music set but got chatting to some of the locals and, in particular Matthew the barman, and ended up leaving at 1.30 am. Fantastic evening of great music, beer and conversation. Would definitely recommend the Underground Wonder Bar... More

This was a nice place to go. We went on a Saturday night. There was a $10.00 cover which wasn't bad at all. The first thing you see after you walk in is the stage all the way in the back. In-between that are tables and a long bar area. There are also a few tables in the back by... More

This place has a variety of great music but be prepared for a cover charge. It's usually well worth it. The place is very very small and the music is loud- so don't go here expecting to have intimate conversation. The menu is typical bar food but the flatbread pizza was delicious.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
