The Underground Wonder Bar was a highlight of our recent trip to Chicago. The jazz-blues fusion band was excellent, particularly the trombonist. I'm so glad that we were able to go there before it closed its doors permanently (Lonie, the singer and owner of the bar, announced that it would be closing on the Labour Day weekend, after being in business for 28 years).

Great late night hangout. My group went downstairs where they were playing 80s music. We danced as much as we could since it was very crowded. The only complaint was an a-hole bartender that had a huge attitude. You can tell this was his "golden ticket". I'm pretty sure he was over charging me for drinks and was pocketing the difference. Then he actually complained to me when I asked for a cup of water along with my order! Since he acted like I was inconveniencing him, I wasn't going to tip him, but he stared me down until I did. Guy really pissed me off. I can't imagine a bar would be that desperate to have such a piece of crap working their on a busy Saturday night. I which I knew his name, but I would avoid him at all costs. He was working the bar downstairs near the bathrooms.

The underground wonderbar is esoteric, in the sense that it's a little hard to understand what goes on here.. It's a neat place with an attitude of it's own... however, the music is hit or miss.
Been there for Reggae nights which are great .. but been there on other nights when the music is really not very good at all.
This is not an upscale joint at all, and is really a place frequented by regulars where everyone seems to know everyone else.

The rave reviews by others must be of another place. Maybe 2/3rds full; drinks tasted below the bottom shelf; The so-called "legendary" L. Walker struggling; no one paying attention to her attempts to hype the “crowd”except birthday boys getting humiliated with liquor poured in their throat on a chair in the front. Saturday night with a $15 cover. Trombone soloist was very good.

Walked by this place a bunch of times and it always looked pretty hip and vibrant inside. Well, looks can be deceiving. The drinks and bar service were good. An honest drink for a decent price. I had an old fashioned - it was good, classic. My wife had a Manhattan, they put it on the rocks without asking, she likes hers up but no big deal it was solid. The food on the other hand - ugh! Ordered pizza - it was warm, at best, and tasted like it was microwaved and definitely over priced. Skip it! Music was OK. While we were there an older woman was singing what was her version of the Blues - someone said she was the owner - she should leave the singing to the pro's and maybe hire a good chef. Will not be back. Much better choices in River North - with no cover charge!

Huge disappointment, they advertised Vegan friendly menu as well as live music, uh, kitchen was closed, chef quit, they mentioned there was a venue next door that had " bar food" burgers wing etc, the food was terrible, the live music was equally bad. An expensive lesson for sure.

The music was not good. Maybe it was the genre of the music but it wasn't for me. I was so bored that my wife and I started playing tic tac toe with the crayons they have on each table (didn't quite understand that one). Cover charge was $8 and it wasn't worth it.

The new one somehow...doesn't match to my preferences.
I loved the reggae nights - sundays.
Loonie Walker and her sons ar ea very creative people I like smoked jons and other talented Chicago blues men.

Went there with a large group, apparently the cook quit that day so there was no food although the menu offered vegan and non vegan choices which was why we went. We were told to order food from the restaurant next door which sent the worst food ever!! The drinks at the Wonder Bar were not worth it either! Chicago has great places, this is not one of them!!

Calendar on the website advertised music from 12:30-3:30. Yeah, not so much. The old place delivered. The new place disappoints
