Welcome to the University of Chicago! Founded in 1890 through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, the University of Chicago is an intellectual destination and one of the world's premier academic institutions for inquiry, education, and discovery. UChicago draws inspired students and scholars to our Hyde Park and international campuses, placing us at the nexus of ideas that challenge and change the world. Beyond scholarly endeavors, visitors can tour architecture from neo-Gothic to contemporary, meander through lush botanic gardens, experience a broad array of visual performing arts, bike along the historic Midway Plaisance, and discover many other cultural treasures both on campus and off. Hyde Park Community The main University campus is situated just seven miles south of downtown Chicago in the vibrant Hyde Park neighborhood-a tight-knit, diverse community bursting with coffee shops, restaurants, and bookstores. The newly revitalized 53rd Street corridor has become an epicenter for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Hyde Park is also the heart of Museum Campus South, a consortium of museums and cultural institutions on Chicago's Culture Coast including the DuSable Museum of African American History, Museum of Science and Industry, Frank Lloyd Wright's Frederick C. Robie House, the Renaissance Society, and the UChicago's own Smart Museum of Art, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, and the Oriental Institute Museum. UChicago's Global Impact The University is shaped and inspired by the city of Chicago. Through growing partnerships with neighbors, UChicago is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and economic development of the South Side-and to the global reach of its vibrant city. In all we do, we are driven to dig deeper, push further, and ask bigger questions-and to contribute and expand our knowledge to enrich human life.

We have been on many college visits through the years and University of Chicago was our favorite. The campus is clean and filled with incredible history. The gothic style of many of the buildings is not something you will greatly admire. The people were all cheerful and acknowledging, in standard midwest fashion. Some of the halls are amazing, right out... More

This is one of those places that you turn the corner and find more that you want to investigate! It has also been used in a number of movies (Indiana Jones for example) and you will recognize a lot of the areas. There are a number of small restaurants in the Hyde Park area surrounding. This is the area that... More

There are wonderful museums tucked away on campus, and the buildings themselves deserve to be seen with a careful and thoughtful eye to admire the detail. Spend time in the bookstore or in one of the many coffee houses.

I have worked at UofC for 26 years have seen the campus transform to such a beautiful place. My children have attending day care and elementary school at the near by public school. UofC students have always voulunteered for programs at their schools. Campus is safe enough for my boys to walk, plenty of campus police. Campus is always lively,... More

Wow - this is a beautiful campus with a lot of green space and stunning buildings in gothic and Tudor styles. Worth a look even if you don't have children.

I am a life long Chicagoan but had never been to the U of C until my son wanted to check it out. From a parent view very impressive but even if you are not in the college market still worth a visit just to take in the architecture & history of a beautiful campus

The grounds of this school were beautifully kept, clean and inviting. There was seating areas along the beautiful central walkway, people watching was fun. The Hyde Park neighborhood was very pleasant and calm. The buildings were all 3 stories or less which made the trees and grasses seem full and lush.
