We live in Chicago and have visited Chinatown a number of times, but didn't really know much about it (other than that the restaurants are great). This tour was informative and fun, and our kids (ages 10 and 13) enjoyed it too. The tour guide was energetic and funny, and she made great recommendations for lunch and shopping after the... More

Our guide was very knowledgeable. She lives in Chinatown and was able to give us lots of insight on the architecture and art in the neighborhood. She taught us plenty of things that I never even thought about. We were able to visit a Buddhist temple and even a Chinese Catholic Church attended by Al Capone's family of all things.... More

The tour guide was a college student who lives in the area, she was very knowledgeable about Chinatown, and was very enthusiastic about the tour. Very cheap for the tour. Well worth the money and very interesting

We booked a tour through Groupon for a 90 minute walking tour. The Chinatown Cultural Institute presented it, and our guide, Mallory, was fantastic! We began off Archer Ave. in the newer area just north of the Chinatown entrance. She used a headphone so it was easy to hear everything.and to understand as well. she impressed us with her knowledge... More

My husband and I visited Chicago for the first this past weekend. We don't like to get caught in the tourist traps unless they are a must see like Sears Tower. We found a groupon 2 for 1 for a walking tour of chinatown so we decided to give it a try. The tour was 1.5 hours and stared in... More

Z.J., our guide, gave us a history of Chinatown from the perspective of someone deeply committed to educating people about the history of it's residents. Very informative (including a visit to an alley where a movie was filmed) tour of the architecture and restaurants (even a Buddhist Temple). Because I booked the food tour, we stopped for dim sum appetizers... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown may be one of Chicago’s smallest neighborhoods geographically, but it's big on character, colors, sights, sounds, and flavors. In this South Side neighborhood, you’ll find authentic Chinese restaurants dotting the length of Wentworth Avenue. After a meal of dim sum, noodles, duck or other tantalizing food specialties, satiate your visual appetite with dozens of public art sculptures sprinkled throughout the neighborhood ranging from animal structures to pagodas, a tile mosaic, Chinatown Gate, and a Buddhist Temple.
