The guide was very enthusiastic in the beginning but was begging to loose interest in continuing the tour, there was too many people and it felt like playing bumper cars with the kayaks. I was trying to get ahead but it was too hard to get past the inexperienced kayakers. I don’t know what’s wrong with their paddles, but I was getting hit with a ton of water while everyone else stayed mostly dry. I would prefer going solo next time. The guide could barely be heard throughout the tour either do the tours with smaller groups but I understand it’s difficult since it’s a popular attraction. There was no where to change out of your wet clothes so I had to find a restroom where I could finally change my clothes

We signed up for the intro to kayak tour. Our instructor, Brian, said he’d hang back with those who were having trouble. Instead he left us in the back as we obviously struggled. He then came came back and said we were a safety hazard and took my sister’s paddle away. He kept barking instructions at us so I asked if we could leave early. He got very defensive at this point and told his coworker I “refused” to listen to him as we were guided back to the dock. This place should not offer BEGINNER lessons if their instructors don’t have the patience to teach. A woman who was also on the tour was more concerned and offered more guidance to us than our “instructor”, what a joke. For $40 per person you’re better off finding a different activity around the city.

This was a lot of fun and was a unique way to see the city! Not a strong current, so you don't have to be an experienced kayaker. And we really enjoyed doing the twilight tour, it was beautiful at night.

My best friend and I are beginner kayakers. This tour on Chicago River is quite safe and easy. The tour guide's talk is very informative. The magnificent view of the city skyline is totally worth it!
