About
Rebecca Wheeler offers Chicago visitors and locals an unforgettable experience that’s off the typical tourist path. We go deep into the ethnic neighborhoods that are the heart and soul of the immigrant diversity Chicago is famous for. Each food tour is private for your group of 1-10 guests. Rebecca Wheeler is a cooking instructor and world traveler who serves as a cultural ambassador for Chicago’s diverse ethnic neighborhoods. Each tour features plenty of carefully selected tastings along with authentic insights into the history and cultural significance of the cuisine, backed by her own culinary travels and studies in these countries. The result is a fun, personal and mouth-watering learning experience that will last beyond the tour into your own kitchen and future dining experiences.

Rebecca immersed us in the local culture, customs and cooking of India. Multiple stops at shops, restaurants and markets with snacks and information all along the way. Our tour ended up taking 3 hours but the time absolutely flew by! I have never tasted so many delicious, new foods in my life. I am inspired and can't wait for another trip back to Devon, but will also be sure to try the Argyle and Chinatown tours soon. Best day ever!

I took my 7th grade son and his friend on a food walk of Argyle with Rebecca Wheeler. We all loved it! She gave us just the right amount of information about the foods, culture and neighborhood. The boys were mesmerized by the tour and foods, as was I, and Rebecca picked the perfect items for us to sample. It was a precious gift of time spent with the boys who were totally engrossed in the hands on learning, and I'm looking forward to bring my college age daughters when they are in town. Two thumbs up!

A friend and I were lucky enough to secure a customized private tour of Chinatown with Rebecca this last Wednesday (9/20/17) (Just the two of us). Rebecca knows Chinatown history, culture and architecture in addition to where to go and what to see and eat. We might have been a tough assignment as we were interested in Dim Sum and Hand-Pulled Noodles. She easily accommodated us with a variety of places that allowed us to experience different Dim Sum and learn considerable amounts about the variety of dumplings and noodles as well as where to buy ingredients to make them on your own. She wove our food eating experience into a tour with notable history that gave us a better feel for the reals Chinatown. I also did a tour with Rebecca several years ago to Argyle Street learning about Vietnamese and other Asian food. She is the best tour guide and cooking teacher.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It was a treat for me to have such serious cooks on the tour and to dive deep into what Chinatown has to offer!

I've lived in Chicago for a long time, and it was such a treat to be taken in depth to some of the places I've only driven past and wondered about. Very educational and delicious too!

Becca took us around Devon Avenue to sample what Indian food and culture can be found in this part of Chicago. The area used to be predominantly Jewish and, while there remains a significant orthodox population (generally west of California Avenue), it has been for a long time an enclave for Indians and Pakistanis. The two cultures mingle in places like Patel's grocery store, since the mainly Muslim Pakistanis eat food that most Indians won't (beef for example), they tend to eat in their own restaurants. We aimed for the Indian side, since we're heading to Asia in a few days. We sampled some snacks, bought some spices (I cook a lot), ate a wonderful vegetarian meal, sampled sweets, and even bought a granite mortar and pestle to grind the spices (I owned two, but they were generally useless; Becca steered me to this one). It was a quick and fascinating three hours.

Awesome personal food tour of Argyle Street. Great food tastings(come hungry). Being a foodie but a little hesitant to visit unfamiliar Chicago neighborhoods this really opened our eyes towards exploring other ethnic neighborhoods in Chicago and elsewhere. Can't wait to cook some of Rebecca's favorite recipes.
