    Great food, great music
A local told me about Andy’s, we got a reservation (make a reservation!) and showed up 15 minutes early, the seat in a couple of seatings, went in about 7:35, a few minutes early. Susan was my food and drinks interface, she was delightful, very attentive without being annoying. I had a meatless lasagna, it was terrific. My companion had braised short ribs with potatoes. We enjoyed an artichoke and spinach dip appetizer and finished with a apple and raisin bread pudding with some vanilla ice cream. The jazz combo was pretty good, very inventive. There is a different group every night. My only complaint was the drummer was far too enthusiastic, playing way too loud “backing “ a piano and flute. He was overpowering

    Amazing experience
Visited for a show and were not disappointed! The Andy Brown Quartet was great! Played a variety of pieces. Food was really good and so was the service. A bit pricey with the cover charges and then the food/drink tab, but worth every penny to support live music!

Brilliant local Jazz band and dinner
Absolutely fantastic night experiencing a local jazz band in a cosy warm atmosphere. Food and wine was matched perfectly. $15 cover charge was worth it and especially with the food not being too overpriced. Definitely recommend.

    Petra's Recession 7
Petra is a great bandleader! Great classic jazz. Andy's is casual, with good food to be enjoyed during the show. Reserve a table for the 1st or 2nd set; the $15 per person cover is paid at the door. Guests are asked to remain quiet so everyone can enjoy the musicians' talents. It can get a little stuffy/warm when crowded. Nice staff.

    Enjoyable but I wasn't wowed
I gave 3 stars basically because it was enjoyable, but I wasn't wowed. We had a table right in front of the band (one row back). The view was pretty good, but there were tall poles blocking the sides of the stage from view depending on which side of the table you sat at. We paid $15 each to get in (it was a Sunday night) and the show is only a hour and 15 minutes long. It felt rushed. I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere to some extent so we didn't have to listen to other people talking, but it did make it a bit awkward with everyone sitting in silence staring at the band. My husband ordered the reuben sandwich and said it was very basic and not the best. The beer was good though. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice.

Real jazz bar in the heart of River North
What an incredible place! A real jazz bar. My husband and I had a real blast. The band playing that night was nothing short of amazing. Every single one of them was extremely talented. Can’t wait to be back!

    A great experience
A brilliant experience, we saw a 4 piece play amazing jazz, increasingly talented musicals. The set up is that you book at 6.00 or 8.00pm slot and watch the band with dinner or just drinks. Food was nice, drinks were good and atmosphere was amazing. You pay $15 pp to get in and then order whatever you like. Would recommend

DO not miss this while in town for a Chicago Live Jazz experience.
Was looking for a live jazz experience for a family that included under 21 year old and Andy's was so accomodating, but allowing those under to sit in the main dinning room. But it was amazing! Food was incredible, musicians were world class and it was a perfect way to experience the best of Chicago live music. Each band member were so well seasoned and accomplished we felt like we were getting a PHD in Jazz.

    Experience live jazz
I do not normally write reviews about venues other than restaurants though if you visit Chicago you have to experience live Jazz and Andy’s is an ideal venue located in the central Loop. I am not a fan of jazz though the big band (16+ musicians) playing non stop for approx 90 minutes is something. You can eat here though we settled on a few cocktails - the best was a Cosmopolitan. Service was efficient and the venue quite intimate and busy. Including entry fee of $40, drinks and a tip for the band we spent $100. Great fun.

On a rare trip to Chicago we were recommended to Andy's and made the booking online. What a treat and we were looking forward to our visit.

The Good

We arrived early and paid the admission of $15 pp (we knew this in advance so no worries there) and got a really good table. The young lady who welcomed us asked that we respectfully keep talking to hushed levels when the band was playing. So far so good.

Great little venue and has a great feel.

All was going well until it went bad. Very bad.

The Bad

Even though it was late January 2020 it got uncomfortably hot in the restaurant and our meal was 'so so' even though we expected to pay a premium for dining with live music the quality of the food didn't match the cost.

The Ugly

What really soured the evening was a group of 6/7 people in the corner who'd squashed round a table meant for 4. They didn't order food and talked and talked and talked. They got louder and louder and louder so even the band members were looking their way as they were playing. One woman had such a whiney whingeing voice I felt that i wanted to drag her out of the place by her ears!

Remember that I'd said that all guests were asked to keep their voices down? Well it clearly doesn't apply and is not enforced by the staff.
We asked Walter the waiter to request that these people lower their voices but we were ignored so after 1.5 hrs we upped and left.

The Verdict

The cost: $125 for 2 x cocktails, 2 x starters and 2 x main courses plus $30 entrance for 1.5 hrs not to mention the cab rides each way!

If you care to read other reviews from other people you'll see that this theme is repetitive. It's such a shame that the staff do nothing about people who spoil things for others. I came to enjoy a nice meal out with my wife in a relaxed setting but this was ruined by selfish people and wimpy staff who dare not say anything to them for the benefit of other patrons.

Thank you for your detailed and candid feedback regarding your recent visit to the venue. We will be reviewing the instance described with our nightly management staff regarding handling of parties becoming a distraction during our performances. Being a venue that receives many guests visiting us as their first experience in the jazz realm, we run into hurdles that we look to limit from occurring. Regarding crowd volume/attention we do ask all guests to keep conversation to a minimum during performances, we do formal introductions on stage on many high volume nights of at the starts of our sets and we coach managment to talk to said groups one on one at the tables....all in hopes of getting the desired outcome of a comfortable environment to take in dinner and a show for all. This instance we fell short, but will strive to continue to improve upon this shortfall so as to conitnue to work toward limiting these instances in the future.

Andy’s was recommended to us by two separate tables while we were at dinner as somewhere we should go for music. We were right around the corner and we had to pass it on the way back to the hotel, so they suggested we stop in. Neither of the recommendations mentioned a reservation was needed. However, upon entering the door to the club, we were greeted by the most unfriendly man who made it known we should’ve made a reservation and he wasn’t sure he could seat us. He was extremely rude!!! Mind you, we had no idea as we are not from Chicago. Apparently you’re supposed to make reservations even for the bar seats. He hemmed and hawed, and we were ready to turn and leave, as we were celebrating our 28 th anniversary. And didn’t need that kind of crap! The hostess said we could sit at the bar, so those were our seats. There are two shows, and your door entry payment gets you in for one of the shows only. Was not cheap. Honestly we weren’t impressed with the venue or the show. Definitely not with the personnel. The only reason I gave it a two is due to the hostess and the location to our hotel. We’ve travelled all over, and this was one of our least favorite establishments to listen to live music. We will not go back.

We might have lucked out on the band, but the one we were there to see didn't impress us at all. The admission fee of $15/pp, which doesn't include any drinks or anything else is too high for an hour performance for this type of club.

Food was very mediocre and front desk staff was presenting a clear "don't care" attitude. The waiter was good and attentive. The last unpleasant surprise was a "cleaning charge" on the check. No advanced warning either. Disgusting practice of pushing this expense to the customers, which, unfortunately, became popular in post pandemic times. Though I noticed it started disappearing in places that actually care about customer retention.

Considering how many options for late night Jazz is there in the area, we'll probably pick a different place next time

Looking for live music and have lived here my whole life but never been. There is a reason that I haven’t. Music was good but that was the only bright spot. Didn’t have reservations but was offered seat at bar. There are multiple polls leading to obstructed views. The staff is rude. When paying the cover, the doorman made no mention that we were entering towards end of set. After watching and having one drink, they told us we needed to pay another $15 cover each to stay. Asked for manager and he acknowledged that we had only been there for 30 minutes and staff failed to make it clear, he said there was nothing he could do and we had to pay again. The place is only popular because of location and tourists who don’t know better. So many better options for live jazz in city so don’t waste your time

I arrived on a Tuesday and wanted to hear some live music. It was my first time in Chicago and I wanted something in walking distance. Andy's proved to be perfect for my needs. The doors open at 5:30 with the show scheduled for 6:00.

The MC came onstage and announced the band, the Windy City Ramblers was held up in traffic but would play their full 75 minute set. The band began to arrive piecemeal and the show started with a tuba, trombone and drums. I didn't know what to expect but some dixie land jamming ensued. Andy's is an intimate setting and I chose to sit at the bar as I was alone. Gradually other members started showing up. By the end there were also piano, trumpet/vocals and sax players on the stage.

While I see other reviewers didn't like the "silence" policy, if you're interested in listening and not talking, Andy's was perfect.

I had the fried calamari and stuffed shrimp for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. The shrimp were huge and stuffed with polenta, served on a bed of asparagus in a pool of marinara.

It was not very crowded for the early show on a Tuesday night so I practically had a personal bartender at my service. All in all a great start to a quick (48 hours) trip to Chicago.

We've frequently visited this Jazz Club and always enjoyed the service AND multiple Jazz Bands in 1 night. We arrived at 5:30 PM and stayed through no less than 3 bands.
Tonight! However, we paid $30 cover charge for two persons - for the show at 6 PM. At 7:20PM we were told to leave. We were not allowed to stay and view the next show. Instead, after a mediocre set we had to leave. IF you want a real night filled with Jazz seek another venue.

I have not visited a jazz club previously, and I did not particularly enjoy jazz prior to my visit. However, it was recommended to my friends and I that we'd visit this jazz club to enjoy some music.

The performing band was fantastic and performed a solid, yet enjoyable repertoire of songs for the audience to enjoy. The band speaker was extremely charismatic and charming, and it was so great to enjoy an unfamiliar brand of music whilst seeing the band so passionate and in love with the music they were performing.

Food (dinner) was served before and during the performance. Whilst on the higher end in terms of cost, the food was also quite good and the servers were very polite too.

I was in the Chicago area with my daughter and her friend (both 18). My daughter was hoping to visit a jazz club while we were there and we ended up visiting Andy's. The three of us met up with a friend of mine from the area with her husband and adult son. The food was good and the atmosphere was fantastic! The chef accommodated special request for my daughter, which was very nice. The musical act was the Marques Carroll Quintet and they were fantastic! The show itself was about 1 hour and 20 mins long. Our entire group enjoyed every moment.

The only thing I wish I had known about before visiting was the "silent policy". The venue asks people to not talk AT ALL during the performance. While I understand this perspective, it is a big surprise for people who make a reservation expecting to socialize and then have this requirement sprung on them at showtime. I think they would have more completely satisfied customers if this expectation was set at the time the reservation is made.

We really enjoyed our visit to the jazz club. I am only giving it a 4 since we got stuck sitting behind a pole and could not see the band very well.

We did not eat here, only had drinks. The drinks were good. The service was good, but you can tell they may be understaffed as the two behind the bar were running their tails off.

It was a lovely evening and the music was amazing. I would highly recommend a visit. We will be returning!!
