Boring jazz, Poor service, Rude management. Terrible food
Feb 2020
Boring jazz, poor service, rude management and terrible food. We were incredibly excited to go to Andy´s Jazz club but were left bitterly disappointed! We were told off for talking by Lynn, a long standing manager. We were surrounded by loud tables talking and were there with our teenage children and my 72 year old mother - hardly the table of loud talkers compared to everyone around us. Also it´s a club/restaurant not a theatre venue so people will talk. The food was average, the service poor and the jazz was incredibly boring - I have seen a lot of jazz all over the world and Andy´s was the most boring jazz by far. We won´t be going back!

Nice place
Jan 2020
The musicians were reallly good, I must admit. The music was too loud, the volume extremely high, difficult to enjoy with a meal. The food's not bad, but if you can go to a restaurant first it's better. But I understand that live jazz in Chicago is a Must, so.. I recommend, youneed to pay the ticket for the entrance CASH ONLY, and then the food and drinks once inside.

I recommend it.

Great Service and Food
Jan 2020
I attended a fundraising event here where their normal menu and service were also provided. Susan, our waitress, did a FANTASTIC job at keeping up with the chaos of all the people that attended. She was very attentive, friendly and quick, bringing food and drinks very efficiently. Also, the food was delicious, especially the parmesan crusted chicken. Highly recommend!

The good the bad and the downright ugly
Jan 2020
On a rare trip to Chicago we were recommended to Andy's and made the booking online. What a treat and we were looking forward to our visit.

The Good

We arrived early and paid the admission of $15 pp (we knew this in advance so no worries there) and got a really good table. The young lady who welcomed us asked that we respectfully keep talking to hushed levels when the band was playing. So far so good.

Great little venue and has a great feel.

All was going well until it went bad. Very bad.

The Bad

Even though it was late January 2020 it got uncomfortably hot in the restaurant and our meal was 'so so' even though we expected to pay a premium for dining with live music the quality of the food didn't match the cost.

The Ugly

What really soured the evening was a group of 6/7 people in the corner who'd squashed round a table meant for 4. They didn't order food and talked and talked and talked. They got louder and louder and louder so even the band members were looking their way as they were playing. One woman had such a whiney whingeing voice I felt that i wanted to drag her out of the place by her ears!

Remember that I'd said that all guests were asked to keep their voices down? Well it clearly doesn't apply and is not enforced by the staff.
We asked Walter the waiter to request that these people lower their voices but we were ignored so after 1.5 hrs we upped and left.

The Verdict

The cost: $125 for 2 x cocktails, 2 x starters and 2 x main courses plus $30 entrance for 1.5 hrs not to mention the cab rides each way!

If you care to read other reviews from other people you'll see that this theme is repetitive. It's such a shame that the staff do nothing about people who spoil things for others. I came to enjoy a nice meal out with my wife in a relaxed setting but this was ruined by selfish people and wimpy staff who dare not say anything to them for the benefit of other patrons.

Thank you for your detailed and candid feedback regarding your recent visit to the venue. We will be reviewing the instance described with our nightly management staff regarding handling of parties becoming a distraction during our performances. Being a venue that receives many guests visiting us as their first experience in the jazz realm, we run into hurdles that we look to limit from occurring. Regarding crowd volume/attention we do ask all guests to keep conversation to a minimum during performances, we do formal introductions on stage on many high volume nights of at the starts of our sets and we coach managment to talk to said groups one on one at the tables....all in hopes of getting the desired outcome of a comfortable environment to take in dinner and a show for all. This instance we fell short, but will strive to continue to improve upon this shortfall so as to conitnue to work toward limiting these instances in the future.

Great jazz and blues
Nov 2019
Really great venue to listen to jazz and blues in Chicago. They have a good selection of cocktails, and a few craft beers on tap. Dining there is an option although I typically will go to a later set after dinner. Tends to be crowded but once dinner is completed you can find seats in the jazz room - prior to that there are seats around the bar. The only drawback is that it is noisy at times as some of the clientele do not pay attention to the music and end up talking. The acts are varied, mainly locally based acts, but of good quality. There is a $10-15 cover charge on the way in.

Jazz and Dinner
Nov 2019 • Couples
This is a true jazz club over dinner. The music is great and the dinner fine. They have some gluten free options but for the most part you need to adjust your entre. They do require you to leave your table after two hours (e.g. go to the bar) so they can have turnover for the next set. The restaurant is located just a few blocks north of the river and the downtown “loop”.

Lovely night out listening to live Jazz
Nov 2019 • Couples
We wanted to have dinner at a jazz bar and we came across Andy’s. There’s a cover charge of either $10 or $15 per person - we were there on a Thursday night so we charged $10 pp. This money goes to the band.

We ordered our dinner, I had a salad abt crab cake - just what I was looking for and my husband had steak. The meals are a bit pricey but seem to be consistent with other jazz bars.

We had really good service and had a great evening. So cool listening to live jazz while eating dinner.

Unfriendly process when dining...
Nov 2019
When making a reservation, you have to give up the table after two hours. Entrance fee 15 USD in cash with no receipt. Food was good, but the reason to go there is the music, of course. Quite crowded on a Saturday night, but once the two hours are gone, they do not ask, but put the check on the table and you feel like thrown out of the club... They want to maximise the turnover, but not the happiness of their guests. Suggestion: Go there and stay at the bar, listen to the music, and eat out somewhere else...

One Time Visit
Nov 2019 • Couples
We went as a result of a generous and thoughtful gift and hoped for some great music and food. The music was fine but not really my style and the food was very average. Especially for the prices. The chips and guacamole was poorly done with too few greasy chips and some bland salsa. The crab cake (1) was straight from the freezer section of a TJs. The fish tacos (2) were not very interesting either, as they came with less than advertised. (They must have run out of crema sauce.) it was not a good value as the aforementioned food and one glass of wine each set us back well over a Benjamin. Not going back for the food but maybe for some good jazz?
