We just finished a 2 week fabulous tour of Iceland.
Oli Schram, built the trip with us from A to Z. He has a very deep knowledge of Iceland to a remarkable level, he is a great guide and companion for an adventure, a very nice and fun person to be with. He took care of our every need.
I am so grateful to him and very very highly recommend him for anything related to Iceland. Your dream trip is guaranteed with him, you are in great hands!

I am very lucky to have travelled to Iceland in July of 2017 with my mum, sister and best friend. We are rather well travelled people and have visited many beautiful places in the world.
.....and then came Oli, huni and Iceland. The adventure, the conversation, the excitement was simply spectacular. We were with Oli for 10 days and I don’t know how he did it but every single day got better, with a bigger adventure, more beautiful scenery and better accomodation. He followed all our interests, dietary requirements and budget to a ‘t’.
I simply could not recommend staying as far away from huge tourist buses as possible and booking a trip with Oli. It felt like we were touring Iceland alone and for 10 days the world had stopped travelling.
Every time I get asked where my favourite trip ever was. It’s now a no brainer thanks to Oli.
Sending all our love to Huni.
From the Gaby, Jodie, Taryn & Julie who 3 years later still can’t stop talking everything Iceland.

We have just returned from a 3 week holiday in Iceland. It was superb: fiords, mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, whales, the northern lights – Iceland has everything. But the highlight of the holiday was the 6 days we spent with Óli Schram from Icelandic Highlander travelling around the central highlands and south coast. Óli is an older guy with an amazing understanding of and connection with Iceland’s history, landscape, social customs and people. Travelling with Óli added hugely to our trip. Óli is also a phenomenal back country four wheel driver. He got us into beautiful, isolated spots that were far from the tourist crowds. The river crossings, black ‘sand’ deserts, ice caves, mountain walks and relaxed chats around the dinner table at night were great. If you get a chance to travel with Óli Schram grab it with both hands - he is an absolute legend.

Finding Oli was a result that can only be compared to finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. My initial attempt to organize our trip to Iceland resulted in an itinerary that consisted of nothing more than tours on buses with great hoardes of people, confined to the Golden Circle. Oli was sensitive to our desire to have a "wild" Icelandic experience and to avoid any other people. He diligently, and not without some humour, managed to keep us away from everyone, bar one or two occasions (we did insist on Gulfoss, he equally insisted it was a bad idea if we wanted to avoid the crowds!) We were an odd group, consisting of a lady above a "certain age" (my mother), a lady "of a certain age", (me), and my son - 10. Combined with Oli, Huni, a truck with a snorkel, and a serious amount of banter, we made quite a multi-generational band as we embarked on our 5 day tour of "avoiding people". Our accommodation was nothing short of spotless, if very basic, and all found by Oli thankfully - but truthfully, we are not fussy people, and being able to cover as much ground as possible, was more important to us, than 5* hotels. I think that it takes a particular kind of person to be able to keep everyone smiling (including the dog) for 5 days, especially with the differences in ages. My 1000th yell of "stop the car, I have to take a picture" was greeted with the same patience and slam of the brakes, as the first, and included a photography lesson to boot. I recommend leaving your itinerary in Oli's hands, he took us everywhere (or at least possibly mostly everywhere) and if you travel in the summer and can drive through the Interior, do so. One final tip, if you are lucky enough to book Oli, do ask him if you can meet his friend Einar, who is probably the best story teller to have ever drawn breath.

There are at least three ways to tour Iceland. On your own, with a Tour Bus company, or with a personal guide. So as not to risk missing the secret places, meeting Icelanders in their own home and environment, driving in snow storms or on icy roads without local skill and knowledge, being controlled by a "whistle stop" timetable, busloads of folks who may not be sharers of how best to be in your company, a personal tour guide is the way to see this fascinating country.
My lady and I could not have "fallen on our feet' any more successfully than to have decided on a Oli as our guide.
Oil quickly tuned in to what would interest us, and where we would be happy to go and what would suit us to do. We felt completely at home with him and safe in sunshine, snow and ice on the road. He tailor made what to do next in a flexible fashion. If we wanted to know why Iceland banned beer until 1986, he knew. Or why ever farm has a church of its own, he knew.We got to sit in some of these and to meet their owners. Because he had grown up in farmland country we met farmers, their sheep, and were introduced to their new Iceland enterprises. The world can learn much from Iceland by how it has come out of the GFC so well. Oli could show us how this has been achieved. How to leave the beaten track for glaciers, ice caves, and to meet survivors of the Volcanic eruption.
We went on a quad bike trip into exquisite snow covered country side in complete safety, being discovered by friendly inquisitive Icelandic horses. Just us, and our guides, at our own pace,in our own time, so peaceful. Oli found us the best over night stays, miles from the suburbia.Good food, too.
Oli is passionate about his country, and because of his companionship on this trip, I am now too.
If Oli rings me and says he will be in Australia, he and his lovely lady can see how I live at my place.
What more can I say? Would I ask him to guide us again.? Absolutely.

We spent a memorable week with Oli in August in (mostly South) Iceland with our children (ages 11 and 14). With Oli we not only saw all the places visited by most tourists but also some "off the beaten path," "off road" places. We considered doing a self-drive tour but are so glad we chose to go with Oli. With him navigating, we could relax and enjoy the (incredible) scenery and not worry AT ALL about logistics. We really enjoyed his company, his stories and his amazing & entertaining dog. We have travelled a lot and have never used a guide before; but we are so glad that we booked this trip with Oli. We are ready to go back.

We spent seven days with the amazing Oli exploring parts of Iceland that are not smothered in tourists. If you want to avoid the madding crowd - and we gather that around 25% of the population at any one time is tourists - then take a trip with Oli. He knows everyone in Iceland, and more literally knows everywhere in Iceland. He is remarkably patient (especially with our struggles to learn at least how to read the language), good humoured and extraordinarily knowledgeable of the local history and geography. He tailors his tours to suit the activity levels and interests of his customers so give him a good briefing when you book on the sort of thing you want to do and what sort of people you are. He managed to set an itinerary that catered admirably to the energy of our youngsters and to our own rather more sedate style. But make no mistake - this is an adventure holiday. And a great experience. We did lots of stuff that we had never done before, bathing in hot water creeks, swimming in warm spring caverns, tramping round bubbling mud pools as well as (of course) visiting majestic waterfalls, striding out on wonderful walks, and marvelling at astonishing landscapes - glaciers, volcanoes, archaeological sites, hot springs, extraordinary rocks... Oli's attention to the preparation of the itinerary meant that all accommodation was smoothly arranged - we just slotted in as though we were meant to belong there.
At first glance, the expedition looked quite expensive, but when you discover how expensive everything is in Iceland, you realise that doing it with Oli is really excellent value.
We had a ball - lots of fun, lots of "Wow!" and lots of learning.

Oli is extremely knowledgeable about all things in Iceland. Our family (2 adults, 1 teen, two kids under age of 10) traveled with him for 5 days throughout southern and eastern Iceland. He was patient, accommodating and flexible with our itinerary, and he also was able to hit home-runs with all the major items that I had requested (waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, volcanos, etc). He was also helpful in trying to save us money, recommending less-expensive restaurants when possible and also bringing us to a local supermarket. He helped us make hotel reservations when the one I had made was cancelled. He double-checked all of our activities and tours, so all of the arrangements were flawless. More important, the activities we did -- ATV riding, going in a zodiac in the glacier's "lagoon", staying at small owner-occupied hotels, were incredible. It was so great to have private trips and to get to know other Icelandic people. Oli is very kind and fun; he's not exactly soft around the edges, though. He is very opinionated; he can be cantankerous and outright rude sometime, so you have to take his opinions with a thick skin and talk back to him at times! I found his personality to be part of the enjoyment of our whole experience, but some people may be at odds if they're looking for a sweet-talking, smooth-sailing guide. You can count on Oli to say things as he sees them. He's lived a fascinating life, and frankly I want him to become the subject of a podcast about his life.

My wife and I came close to booking our first vacation to Iceland on a cruise ship that specializes in Iceland. Fortunately, a friend of my wife's who has been to Iceland 27 times told her about Oli, a private guide he had used twice to tour his family. After reading the Trip Advisor reviews and after exchanging a few emails with Oli, we knew that we would enjoy Iceland much more with a personal guide than on a cruise ship, which, by the way, was pretty pricey when we added in excursions on shore. Oli is known as the best guide in Iceland and he definitely has earned that title. The reviews on Trip Advisor summed up our experience quite well. We enjoyed hearing the history from Oli and visiting small museums and working farms, hiking with his dog Huni, the smartest, most personable Border Collie in the world, and seeing things that the average tourist does not get to see. Every day was an adventure because of Oli. Our 9 days with Oli and Huni will always stand out as the best, most unusual vacation we have ever had. We highly recommend his services! Thank you Oli and Huni

My friend and I only had 3 days to spend in Iceland and contacted Oli to set up the trip for us. He planned the housing, locations, restaurants and gave us suggestions on what to see. For the more typical sites, he made sure we did not go the same time as the tour buses. Then, in 2 days he took us through varied terrain from volcanic black rocks to green mountains to canyons. All the colors of the rainbow were seen in the landscape he took us through. He is wonderful to chat with and Huni, the dog, was a darling. If we had booked trips on our own or driven on our own, there is no way we would have seen this much. Oli really cares to share with you his beautiful country. We highly recommend his work.

Would you be able to give me Oli's last name? I think he was our guide several years ago, and I would like to get in touch with him.
Thanks
