Pendle Hill is magical as are the many small villages around the area. In fact I have travelled around this area for more years than I can remember. Recently the residents of Barley have not made visitors welcom. From illegally blockading the roads during the pandemic to cones placed on the road to discouraging parking. There is a car park on the edge of the village that has toilets, a cafe and access to the Pendle sculpture trail. However, the council have recently sold off this to a private company who are catching out many regular visitors with £35 parking charges. If you can put up with the local stay away mentality then it is worth a visit. Personally I don't go where I am not welcome anymore.

You must do this trip around Pendle Hill

We had a few hours before attending a wedding function on the evening of our stay, and so decided to take a drive around Pendle Witch Trail out of Burnley. We passed through several of the beautiful villages. We saw the statue, Alice Nutter, by the roadside and the on to visit the Witch shop. Suggest you buy a map prior to driving around. We also loved the countryside and views of the hills.

Commands the area for miles and is the focal point of the area. Great going on the toad and seeing it from different angles.

Worth the effort

Went to Pendle for a witch hunt. Started our journey at the lovely cafe in the village . Great food and drink and prices very good . The trip to the top was hard going at times but stick with it . I have fibromyalgia and made it to the top . If I can everyone can . There were guided tours but we went during a break in lockdown so we went alone . A guide would have been good to point out facts etc . View from the top is amazing . Worth the effort of getting to the top

This hiking it's amazing! I loved the experience of to hiking on snow. I'd started by resevoir and finished on the way near the trig. The climb was slippery, so it's better protector for shoes.
The view is really incredible!

Witches and Hills

We spent two days stopping at Barley for some nice comfortable walks the first was the witches trail which took in all the places connected to the witches trial and all the characters this was a seven and a half mile walk well worth doing and not to difficult for families. Next we did Pendle Hill but avoided the masses going straight up we found a nice circular route which took us past Ogden reservoir towards Ogden Clough with views of Fell wood passing then through Boar Clough then climbing up along the old watercourse then ascending Barley moor then up to the top of Pendle Hill then straight back down to Barley a nice five mile route taking just over two hours

As beautiful as usual

I've not been walking up Pendle Hill for a few years so it was nice to return, luckily on a nice day, to see its beauty is still there.

The steps make good a good workout so make sure you have some water on hand. It is also windy at the top so have your warmer clothes ready, after you've taken them off sweating up the hill!
