I frequently visit on my motorcycle, and sometimes take my little yorkie for walks in this area. It's really beautiful year-round. I love spring, summer and fall near the lake, but even when winter hits, the geese bring their beautiful sounds and flights back and forth during the day. I always love to hear them honking. If you're lucky, you... More

Great place to view all kinds of Water Fowl. if you are lucky you may even spot an Eagle. I have not fished here but there are a lot of boats out there.

A very nice lake & marsh area where migrating birds land, feed and live at various times of the year. There is a bird blind where you can sit and observe, bring some good Binoculars, and a camera for looking and taking some candid pictures. There are some nice trails around the area that you can bike on, (use a... More

Walked out in early evening to the bird blind. The blind can be very hot but all sides have wood windows you can open to let a draft in and view the marsh/birds. Very pretty and fairly quiet. The lake is very large and it allows boats, fishing and swimming.

The staff is nice enough out at the DF Nat'l Refuge...but they don't pay attention to detail for the customers who come in to purchase National Park passes! We called to see if we could get the Pass before leaving on a road trip and they assured us they could sell us one at this location. But when we got... More

My first visit I went alone with my bike - really beautiful and peaceful, loved the lake views and birds, but the trail I was on was not paved and once on it you had to go quite a ways to find a path off of it due to fenced fields. That is not a complaint - I really didn't... More

Deer Flat NWR offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities, depending on the time of year and interests of the visitor. Personally, I enjoy the variety of hikes and the wildlife that one can see in the area. The best critters are often best viewed with a scope, as the birds can be pretty skittish. The variety of birds observable... More

Enough to see in the visitors center and enough trails to walk on to keep a group of adults and children occupied for 1 - 2 hours.

As a family we regularly go to the refuge. There are walking trails, a nice visitors center and we have taken several classes. Our favorite class was about bats. They also host events for scouts, youth groups and school classes that are age appropriate and entertaining. This is a nice summer outing for the whole family
