I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon fly fishing with Franklin. As someone who had never fly fished, I cannot say enough great things about him as a guide. Franklin was knowledgeable of the river, taking my friend and I to multiple great spots to fish. He was patient, took the time to explain everything in detail, and even helped me catch my first fish! We were outfitted with brand new, comfortable gear for the day. If you are in McCall and looking for something fun to do, I recommend looking them up and scheduling a fly fishing experience!

First time fly fishing and we could not have been happier with our experience. Jeremy took us to Brundage Reservoir, an absolute stunning setting. While Jeremy was still getting my husband set up, I got my first bite! Jeremy is an excellent guide who consistently moved us to areas where we'd most likely have success. He's a patient teacher and gave reminders of things we needed to fix to have the best casts.
To the people who complain about the drive or not catching as many fish as they hoped, sorry you didn't enjoy the experience for what it is - a beautiful day in a spectacular setting. Cannot recommend McCall Anglers enough. Looking forward to going back again!

We were in McCall for vacation and wanted to try fly fishing. Locals recommended Taylor's and we went out on Brundage Lake with Tom Kemnitz who was patient and informative with us newbies. Fishing hole was beautiful and Tom helped us learn the ins and outs of a fun new hobby. He was a great guide.

1/2 day trip where the guide took us a long distance over rough terrain to Brundage reservoir. Despite our past experiences on the Wood River, we didn’t get any strikes at this reservoir. Fish on a river next time and go with what works . $425 for getting fresh air on a reservoir was indeed a waste as the trout were not interested or not present in significant numbers

First of all, I want to clarify that I totally understand that "fishing" does not always equate to "catching". My passion for fishing over the years far outweighs the fact that I realize I am not guaranteed to catch anything whatsoever when I drop a line in the water. This review is more based on the OPPORTUNITY of catching fish, especially when you plunk down over $500.00 bucks for a professional guide. My desire is to be as honest as possible based on my experience with Taylor Outfitting: I had contacted Robert a number of weeks before we were to arrive in the McCall area and inquired about a fishing trip for my wife and I. I told him that we were new to fly fishing but would love to get some lessons and try our hand at fishing some of the beautiful streams in the area. He had mentioned that they were catching some big rainbow trout in the rivers behind his home and there were some other areas that were also producing good fish. He said that they had been seeing some big smallmouth bass and tiger musky in a local lake that we could also consider checking out. I told him trout fishing would be more of an interest to me as I have plenty of lakes nearby where I live that I can fish smallmouth and musky. We scheduled our fishing date and my wife and I were excited to learn to fly fish and take in some of the beautiful streams and rivers in the McCall area. The day before we were to meet, we were contacted by Tom, who informed us he would be our guide. I told him we were excited to experience river fishing for trout. He seemed surprised at this and told me he was planning on taking us smallmouth fishing and said he would talk to Robert and call us back. When Tom called us back, he said that Robert told him that the rainbow trout were not hitting anymore and that trying to fish that river system would be very difficult for inexperienced fly fisherman. Tom also said that he could have taken us to some other trout streams that he is familiar with, but because of all the snow pack due to the large amount of snow that year they weren't accessible yet (May 21st). Our only option was smallmouth fishing in a local lake where Tom and Robert both said they have seen some larger fish near the shoreline. At this point, we had already paid for the trip and other members of our group who weren't into fishing had made other plans for that day, so we agreed to go. Tom was a very friendly guide and gave my wife and I some basic lessons on the dock of the lake that supposedly had the great smallmouth fishing. He took us out in the boat to the other side of the lake and we spent some time "sight fishing" looking for bass. After some time, we came across a few bass in the shallows and they immediately spooked and darted to the deep waters. This became a familiar pattern when we "looked" for fish. Hoping to have something to show for our efforts, I decided to use a standard baitcaster rod and real and started casting around some of the structure. I did catch one nice smallie and one little guy. Pretty soon other boats came over the the area we were fishing and Tom said that all the fish would be spooked and we might have to go somewhere else, but he wasn't sure where because this was the only spot on the lake where they had "seen" fish. The battery died to the trolling motor so Tom rowed around while we spent a few hours casting around with not even a bite. My wife ditched the fly rod and started baitcasting as well but to no avail. We rowed back to the boat launch around 2:00 for a potty break, and by that time we were tired of the same routine with no results. There were a couple of other boats pulling out as well and I talked with the guys who said that this is a tough lake to fish because the fish are so scattered and they are difficult to find. Tom also agreed with that assessment. I asked Tom if there were any other fishing locations where we would have at least a decent opportunity to catch something with the 2-3 hours we had left. He said there were a few places he hadn't tried yet and we could cast from shore near the river in town. At this point I decided there was no reason to continue wasting time and asked Tom if we called it a day could we get something back for not getting what we paid for. He said that Robert is a good guy to work with and if we called him I'm sure he would take care of us. So I called Robert a few days later and told him what transpired and he told me in so many words that I "quit" on Tom and that he "might" have been able to find a better place to fish. No offense to Tom, he was engaging and helpful, but I think his hands were tied because he was out of good options. I told Robert that I paid $500 to come to Idaho to learn to fly fish and experience trout fishing. I can surely row my 14' fishing boat in the lake near my home and cast around and catch plenty more smallmouth (including some big ones!) than this lake. It did not provide a good OPPORTUNITY for catching fish. In hindsight, I wonder if I should have asked Robert that if I agreed to go to this "super smallie" lake, and it didn't produce as advertised, I would get reimbursed for my time and money spent. Robert did offer a credit of some sort if I ever come back that way, but I didn't see that happening any time in the near future. I suggested a partial credit (I think that would be fair---and no I am not a tight wadd...I took care of Tom for his time and effort). Robert said he would think about it and get back to me. Didn't hear back from him for a few weeks so I left another message a couple of weeks ago.......nothing.

Nice guys, beautiful day but planned on keeping a few trout for dinner. Idaho law allowed me two fish none over 14 inches.Guide acting like he owned the fish and lake by declaring no fish could be kept after I had booked and was on the lake. Told me his philosophy was no kept fish as he preached "he made his livelihood from fishing here". I reminded him the $300 I paid him came from my livelihood. We pounded the banks caught a good number of small trout. Beautiful lake, great setting but for $300 I should have been able to keep a couple of fish for our camping experience. The guide wasn't intelligent enough to realize that most people weren't going to keep fish and that the overall health of the like might improve if there weren't so many small trout. Some needed removal for balance in my opinion, In other words, there was no danger of us breaking 14 inches. There may be big trout in there but slinging tiny flies up on the bank wasn't going to catch them. I'd recommend saving your money and finding a guide that pursued decent fish. This might make a good kids trip.

We did the all-day fly fishing trip but it ended up being 5 hours of driving to the river and 4 hours of fishing. We were told there would be some driving but it was certainly not what was expected for $600. They also charge $45 for a pack of flies, even if you don't lose any. You get to keep what's left but it was a cost that wasn't disclosed until we were told in a text the night before. We caught about a dozen small-to-medium salmon that were catch-and-release so future customers have something to catch. The guide was nice enough but four hours of fly fishing goes by a lot faster than 5 hours of driving.

This is the second year that I have traveled to Idaho, and second time going on a guided fishing trip with Taylor Outfitting. It was a wonderful experience. My girlfriend, who has never fly fished before, caught multiple trout on the fly. I could tell that she had a great time. The outfitting does make sure that opportunities to catch fish are presented to the customer. If you ever travel to McCall, I highly suggest that you use Taylor Outfitting to guide you in the fantastic fishers of the area

We had a afternoon trip booked with Tyler. He had a nice drift boat well equipped and was ready to go when we got there. He had his personal fly rods (two for Wet Fly's and two for Dry Fly's) set up and ready to go. He offered to set ours up but we elected to get started. It started off drift fishing with some Wet Fly while we relocated to a part of the Lake that he said had been very productive. On the way over I had two hits but Rich caught a nice Rainbow over 14". Then we stared to throwing out Drys and we both Hooked 4 fish all around the 14" to 16" size good fighting Trout. Thanks Tyler a very nice and affordable afternoon. B.R.

Robert and Jeremy are 2 of the best guides I have ever had the pleasure of spending the day with. These guys are both master outdoors men, knowledgeable, intelligent and able to relay interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. Great people.
