Melody Keith was working the day of our visit. What a treat! She shared stories about the area and knew a great deal about the history of the county. The museum was full of historic items and offered an interesting history lesson! Our visit lasted a little over an hour and we could have stayed longer.

This is a very well curated museum. The displays are thoughtful and interestingly presented. We received a tour of adjacent historic sites included with our ticket. Highly recommend including this museum to understand local history.

This museum is small by museum standards, but it has a lot of the Nez Perce Indian history displayed. There is also a twenty minute film that is a" don't miss" also. The people who work at this museum are very friendly. One we talked with is a Nez Perce Indian. He talked with such pride about this history of his family and people. Enjoyed very much!

Years ago I spent a long day liberating Herb Banks very significant collection of railroad photos from the highly acidic environment in which he had encased them, behind glass and with backing nailed to the frame. On this trip I stopped at the museum to view them again, and was refused. "We can't show these to the general public." This is NOT what museums are about. If they won't show them, they should give them to another venue which will. Herb did not take those pictures to hide them in a drawer! Who knows what else they have sequestered? This whole experience was shocking and very upsetting. I do not recommend that you submit yourself to a similar disconnect from reality.

We live in Lewiston and have visited this museum many times. If you are a local or visiting the area be sure to put this on your list of "things todo"
The museum is a rather small museum but has many interesting artifacts and will give one a quick overview of the history of the area and give ideas of other areas you many want to investigate.
They have fun things for children to do and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Here you will learn the Lewiston was once known as Rag City and also was the capitol of Idaho in early days.
Lewiston, Has lots of history..Start at the museum and then drive the town and recognize all the historical blds

It helps if you read bout the Nez Perce first. I recommend Yellow Wolf by L. V. McWhorter. We went specifically to see the Nez Perce reservation and visit the sites mentioned in Yellow Wolf. It was worth the trip. .

We stopped in to find out about the local history and found a nice variety of exhibits on the local Lewistown history, some exhibits on the Nez Perce Indians, and of course info on Lewis and Clark. Very well done for a volunteer organization.

This is the best place to work for. You learn a lot everyday about the history of Nez Perce County even though you have been at the museum over 17 years. Just about every person who walks through the doors of the museum has a story to tell about the history of this area.

We were here with a group touring the Lewis & Clark Trail and were stunned to learn that William Clark was said to have fathered a son here. I would have liked more on the Nez Perce culture and the war against them, but we had stopped at the Big Hole Battlefield on our way thru Wisdom, Montana the day before.
