Wow, Idaho Falls has really created a gem with its greenbelt. Fantastic place to walk or bike. The civic groups and city have built beautiful gardens and the falls themselves are a vision of sustainable energy production.

This is a wonderful use of the downtown river area. It is family friendly and is a great place to stretch your legs after being on the road. The area is clean and well maintained and is a great testimonial for the city leaders.

Walk around the falls of "Idaho Falls". The trail is paved and wide and used by walkers, joggers and bicyclists. Several restaurants, hotels and the Idaho Falls temple line the river on the north side of the trail. The airport is about 2 miles to the north. The north loop around the green belt is about 2 miles, but it exends another few miles south and connects to several other restaurants and hotels on the south end. Beautiful year around, but bring a jacket for early mornings in the summer/fall and bring a winter coat for winter/spring walks.
This is Idaho Falls Old Town. The mall, movie theaters and other shopping are in Ammon, Idaho about 5 miles or so East of the river down 17th street.

There's lots of bike and walkway mileage you could cover on this greenbelt following both the north and south banks of the Snake River. But the capstone location is really the dam, the sheets of falls, and the opportunity to relax and picnic in the shadow of all this. I did an early evening walk of both the the north and south sides from the downtown W. Broadway crossing. The falls, though not high, are dramatic in their expanse. If you're staying overnight maybe take a hotel room with a view. Then you'll be at the site and have more opportunity to explore it. There's a Japanese garden on the south side. Seems to be a pretty popular congregating spot among the local young set. There are several restaurants on the adjacent streets and even some boat traffic. Fishing is allowed as is swimming. But for swimming you'll probably want to locate away from the downtown section. South on the east bank is a camping area. There's also a nice park area up by Idaho State U. Remember, for falls viewing you'll want to be on the west side by Broadway. You'll find plenty of street parking adjacent; just follow the roadway.

We spent a couple of hours exploring this beautiful park along the river. You can stay on paved path or mix it up and get closer to river on dirt trails. There are some really interesting benches placed throughout, and a beautiful Japanese Friendship Garden to explore. It was all very clean, quiet, beautiful.

A lovely way to spend an hour or so. Interesting and informative signage to help explain what you are seeing. Flat terrain so easy to navigate and interesting bench shapes help to add interest. Across the street are places to dine, have an ice cream, or stay overnight. Beautiful views of the Mormon church

We had an amazing tour at the Idaho falls power plant!
The tours are free and take about 45 minutes. You will also visit the basement where the generator is located.
Tours are given by appointment and on Tuesdays & Thursdays 11am to 2 PM.
We are impressed about this "green" energy in Idaho.
Thanks a lot Joelyn for the tour you gave us!!

The Greenbelt trail is definitely a highlight for Idaho Falls. Getting out and seeing all the wonderful artwork, sites, bridges and hearing the water and waterfalls is just amazing. This is a gem for the city. Highly recommend using this trail and seeing the sights and sounds.

They have really done a lot to make this area more attractive. Art that you can sit on was very neat. If you like people watching this is a fun walk around the Snake River that you would enjoy.

How fortunate the citizens of Idaho Falls are to have had leaders that established this green belt walking path. It is beautifully done with a very wide paved path with beautiful landscaping and many views of the falls. There are lots of benches and 30 of them are individual works if are, it was actually fun to look for them. There are also electric scooters for rent all along the way.
Lots of the hotels are on this green belt, so if you are in town, do yourself a favor and go for a walk, you will be glad you did.

I assume you want to know where the greenway is located...
The greenway runs along the Snake River in downtown Idaho Falls. Easy access is behind the Residence Inn on West Broadway St. across from Sportsman Park - Pederson.

How long would you recommend for the walk? Obviously it depends on how fasy you go and how often you stop, but I can't find any info on how long/far it is??

The complete walk is 5.3 miles. We walked from the falls for about an hour at a leisurely place. Lots of roller blades, bikes and family's strolling. You will enjoy it

There are some spots for fishing along the Snake River. I have only seen one or two people. I would suggest you go out of the city limits a little further down the river. The Greenbelt is more for walking around.
