Well managed transfer
Nov 2020 • Couples
In reading the other reviews, I’m surprised by the experiences of others relative to the transfer experience my husband and I had. We booked a shared transfer through the Belmond Cap Juluca hotel where we are staying (which is amazing!). It may have been the hotel’s coordination that improved the process, but we didn’t have any porters or strange luggage hand offs. We were the only ones on the boat as it was the first day Anguilla opened for tourists.

We did have to wait about 25 minutes as we were early to the boat, and another 15 minutes upon arrival for the health administrator to arrive for the test. While no one loves waiting, it was a function of the times not anyone’s issue.

The weather is quite windy so it was an adventurous boat ride, but surprisingly I never felt sick or got wet. We sat outside in the front bow for a great view and some welcomed sunshine.

Crew was great and super friendly!

We debated whether to fly or transfer by boat. Now having done the boat, personally I would rather be on the water in a large boat than tossing around in a small plane, though this is a matter of personal preference. Entire trip took 30 minutes plus another 30 for driving, waiting and admin. If your arrival times perfectly with the departure, it would be even more convenient.

Overall I would recommend, especially in a slow season.

Customer Service
Oct 2019
In October 2019, I had an accident as I was getting off the ferry at Blowing Point. Accidents can happen. I am very happy to let you know that Funtime Charters stepped up and reimbursed my out-of-pocket expenses, that my travel insurance did not cover. This was very much appreciated.

The trip from SXM was excellent. Cold drinks were offered. The crew was friendly and polite. Going to Anguilla from St. Maarten by a Shared Ferry, is an affordable way to get to Anguilla. Passengers are met at the airport and transferred to the dock just by the airport. Totally stress-free. In addition to this, approaching Anguilla by boat is exhilarating. I love the fresh air and breeze blowing through my hair after being cooped up on a plane for the many hours it takes to travel from the West Coast of Canada. Thank you Funtime!

Good experience, pleasant staff - BUT expect a racket of tip demands
Jan 2020
The Funtime people are for the most part very pleasant and professional in their service. The "shared" boats are actually more comfortable and provide a FAR smoother and faster ride than the "private" boats (much smaller and much bumpier ride). The crossing from St. Maarten to Anguilla can be REALLY rough at times, so the larger boats are much better. Complimentary beverages are provided both ways. The biggest downside is that there is a complete racket with regards to luggage... Once you arrive in St. Maarten, they make you take a cab to literally go like 200 yards to the ferry dock and you are "obliged" to tip the cab driver. Then, they have a separate set of porters who not subtly at all "request" tips for the service of taking your bags about 100 feet from the cab to the boat. Then, when you get to Anguilla, the same process happens in reverse... another set of porters appear who "request" tips for putting your bags on a dolly and taking them about 100 feet to the customs/immigration office. The porters are NOT SHY about asking for tips.... repeatedly until they feel like everyone has tipped them. All in all, it's still a better experience than the public ferry, but the porter thing is VERY annoying. I'd rather just pay a bit more up front and not be hassled, but they are not employed by Funtime.

A dislocated ankle, one bone fractured, the other broken; the part that broke off was lodged in the ankle joint.
Oct 2019
On October 20, 2019, I chose Funtime to ferry me from St. Maarten airport to Blowing Point; I was a mere 3" away from Anguilla when my visit was cut short.
The captain and his crew (one young man) were both friendly and polite. The boat ride was comfortable, and the journey enjoyable. The young crew member tied the vessel to the dock, jumped down into the ferry to offer assistance. Adhering to his training, he said, “Watch your head" and "Watch your step." He had turned from me to the other passenger, and had removed his arm when I fell; my foot went between the dock and the boat.

I am extremely disappointed that the owner of Funtime made no attempt to see how I was making out. Several ferries run to/from Anguilla to/from St. Maarten. It is a competitive business. Customer Service was sadly lacking.

Horrible attitude threw my suitcasees on top of the boat. Demanded I tip them.
Aug 2019 • Family
We rented two boats because our flight came in an hour apart me with my kids and my sister with her kids. The private boat was $500 each so we spent 1000. the boat can hold 12 people in your party But its additional after the first five like 75 for adult 35 for kids so it can get very expensive. Each boat that we took had one adult and two kids after paying $1000 when we could have just paid 500 and rode together if we had waited an hour I did not feel like tipping on top of that it’s not my problem that they work for free and they were rude to me the whole time I went on the boat and it was supposed to be the number one thing I was looking forward to taking pictures being invited to the island and they were very rude and I didn’t even notice that they threw my suitcases on top of the boat until we departed the island on our return trip cuz we rode together and they put all the suitcases nicely in the container in the back of the boat that was covered I was like wow. Also also they went very fast and they threw all my suitcases on the trip there they went very fast and they threw all my suitcases on the outside portion of the boat where we could sit outside which of course I wanted to I had to tiptoe around my own luggage these people get overpaid for doing nothing there’s no way I’m going to tip them . See our luggage???

Great Charter Services
Jun 2019 • Couples
Used Funtime Charters for roundtrip service from St Maarten to Anguilla. Service was prompt, efficient, safe and comfortable. Crew and captain on the boat took care of everything. Free drinks offered on the 20min trip from terminal next to airport in St Maarten to Blowing Point ferry terminal in Anguilla. Would highly recommend using Funtime Charters for your ferry service needs to Anguilla from St Maarten.

Private charter to and from St Maarten airport
Jun 2019 • Couples
We used this charter service for private charters to and from Anguilla. They were very professional and helpful. They were also very flexible as we needed to make some changes to our travel plans last minute. They seemed very safety conscious and aware of their surroundings. These services are expensive but if you need to avoid the wait for the ferry, they are good to work with. I would use them again.

I opted for funtime since it got such high reviews but man do I wish I hadn’t. We arrived early at 1:30 for our 2:45 shuttle and they would not let us go to the earlier one. Fine. The waiting area though is actually 100 degrees and PACKED with people. No air condition, no water or drinks to buy (or offered), so we sat and sweat. It’s also so disorganized no one knows what’s going on. 2:45 comes and goes and no ferry... 3:20 we finally leave, so sitting in the hot heat for almost 2 hours without a water. The relaxing atmosphere of the ferry is definitely not what we encountered. We were on a tiny boat that packed 20 people in and got a free bottled beer. The staff demanded tips at every single leg of the trip also which was disgusting. Before we got on they wouldn’t let us on unless we tipped $5 for the luggage staff. Then on the boat they made us tip $10 for the boat staff. Then off the boat the made us tip again for taking the luggage. This is RIDICULOUS. We are on the boat for 20 minutes and had one piece of luggage. The trip was also silent. No explanation of the island, no conversation, the boat staff practically pretended we weren’t there. Honestly you’re better off taking the public ferry. It’s fast and reliable and cheap.
