NIFC is a special place for America; all of the large fire coordination for the U.S. happens here. It does not have formal tours, with tour hours, but, if you call them and make a special request, you may be escorted about. June through September are their busiest months and most likely will not be able to accommodate you.

I worked at the fire center in the 70's when it was Boise Interagency Fire Center. It is interesting that this is the center of wildfire fighting in America, it is a interesting place, all business and not a lot of tour's. I stop in to visit now and then.

We visited a shortly after the Yarnell Fire fatalities, it was quite humbling to think of where they will put the 19 more plaques. The upkeep here is much better than it has been in the past. It is a touching experience to learn about how each of these individuals lives tragically came to a close while they valiantly fought... More

I walked through the Wildland Firefighters Monument at NIFC and was hit with the most calming yet undeniable sadness I have ever felt. This beautiful Monument holds onto the memories of our lost wildland firefighters throughout the years. Each firefighter has their own marker and family and loved ones will leave special trinkets that symbolize their lost firefighter. It is... More
