We were very disappointed in this place! The art was far from spectacular as museums go, But what was worse was the way your treated by the highly rude staff! They follow you all around constantly over your shoulder every minute. then in the building which was good size, there was probably 15 people in the whole place. They come up and tell you over and over to pull your mask way up high above your nose ! for what? there was not a soul within 25 feet of me! This made our stay shortened by a lot. Unnecessary and overkill. They acted like we were there to rob the place! Get away leave me alone! Would not recommend! Overpriced as well!

This was a very bland experience. I walked very slowly and still finished looking at everything within an hour. I've visited many art museums (Art Institute of Chicago, NC Museum of Art, MOCA, The Met, The High Museum, etc) and in all of those wonderful places photography is permitted but not here, which made absolutely no sense to me. If you really need to see an art museum wherever you are traveling then you may be interested in visiting here, otherwise there are so many other great art museums to see around the US.

This is a beautiful art museum, located on the edge of a wonderful city park. The weather was a little yucky, so we went to this museum to be inside. It's not overwhelmingly large, which is good. I saw and learned about some artists who I had not heard of before. Unfortunately, the sculpture garden outside was closed due to construction, but we were able to look through the glass doors. Definitely a win! And, as always, check out the gift shop.

Rather on the small side but with several different artists prominently figured in the galleries. There is an interactive etch-a-sketch machine, fun for children and adults. Gift shop was attractively arranged, the docents, shop staff and employees are very helpful. Museum was immaculately, filled with light and engaging. Well worth a visit.

Why do people design, and exhibit crap. And why did I pay for it. Do you know what, I feel cheated. There was this exhibition of this persons "artwork", done using reflectors...the same sort of thing you get on bicycles. And he had arranged them in pretty patterns. That's all there was to it...nothing else. It looked alright when you shined a torch at it. How much do these people get paid, cause it's too much. Don't waste your money here, because I already did.....oh, and you can't take photos..... Why would you.....

This was my first visit to the Boise Art Museum and I was disappointed. I wanted to encourage my budding artist who is 12 years old and all she had to say was "Dad, it looks like a little kid drew this stuff." It did not inspire her nor I. One display was a "doll" made from what looked like the cardboard from a shoe box with with marker scrawls on it. A sculpture outside was literally a pile of tires, vinyl records and bowling balls. As a teacher I gain much more inspiration and encouragement from the more talented high school artists. While I might go again someday I would wait until at least the Spring of 2015 when all of the current displays are gone.

The BAM features nearly 100% modern/contemporary art, and as far as that goes I have to be honest: some works make me roll my eyes; others are so clever I can’t get over it. Bottom line, I appreciate creativity so I’ll seek that out and see what I think. It's hard to rate this museum for all time because it seemed that most everything on display was a temporary exhibit. Had I been here months ago, I might have rated this a 5 ... or a 1. Fortunately, there were enough interesting pieces to keep me there for a little while.
My favorites were the Alexander Calder mobiles (always amazing) and the giant “angle of repose” sculpture by Gail Grinnell. Out in the garden, the “dresses” by Crystal Gough were whimsical and creative. Besides those, I just did a quick “walk by” viewing.
The museum is small, so one does not have to budget much time to see everything. Just get a floor plan, make one circuit, then maybe go back and see your favorites again. You can see the whole place in less than an hour. General admission = $6, not too steep. Good news is that membership in the North American Reciprocal Museums program gets you in for free.
Bummer policy: photography (flash or not) is prohibited both inside the museum and in the sculpture garden.

I think this is the smallest art museum I've seen with the least artsy pieces and lowest value. There is really only a couple pieces of art in there. The rest is pictures drawn by kids and a couple potatoes sculptures. Don't spend the $6. It's a waste. Spend your time relaxing in the rose garden behind the museum, you'll enjoy it much more.

Small and pretentious. The local art galleries are more interesting. Unless you come to see a specific exhibit, don't bother.

I felt this museum was politically biased and I would not recommend visiting it. I wasted my money coming here. A waste of space.
