About
In this 100+ year old factory Idaho Candy Company produced over 50 different candy bars over the years and many varieties of boxed chocolates. Some of the bar names included: Chicken Dinner Bar, Brazil Cremes, Mint Patty, Big Chief, Quarter Section, Fox Trot and many others. Three of those candy bars are still in production: Idaho Spud Bar (1918), Old Faithful Bar (1925), the Cherry Cocktail Bar (1926), Huckleberry Gems (2012) and the Vandal Bar (2022). Our factory also produces 3 varieties of Owyhee Butter Toffee (1925), available in original chunk style, bite sized and chocolate covered. We also make about 12 different kinds of tub, bag and bulk nostalgic candies all in the same "modern" factory at 412 S. 8th Street in Boise, ID. Sorry there are no tours, but there is a display of candy history and free samples in the retail store.

Our daughter, who lives in Boise, took us to the candy company knowing the Idaho Spud Candy Bar has been a favorite of ours for years. Wow, we got a lot of great samples, many types of candy to choose from, purchase, etc......even bought a great baseball cap with their logo on it. Of course, we couldn't leave without buying great candy.....buy their $5 bags of "mis-dips" or seconds, you get an awful lot of candy bars or filled chocolate goodies for a few bucks! Try their huckleberry marshmallow filled chocolates for a real treat.

I am a life-long fan of a weird candy bar called an Idaho Spud Bar. It's supposed to look like a potato. It is a marshmallow-ish filling covered in chocolate and heavily sprinkled with coconut. While visiting Boise, I was excited to see the Spud Bar's manufacturer offered a store and factory downtown. I was envisioning a factory tour -- or at least a production line visible through glass -- along with an extensive gift store. Nope, not so much.

Government regulations prevent any tours, according to the employee working the store. The best they've got is a window in a door that looks down a hall. As for the store itself, they had free samples of Spud Bars plus other confections they make. They had a variety of gift packs, t-shirts, and baseball hats. The store is in the front, the factory in the back -- both are in what appears to be the original building from 1909.

I sampled everything they had and discovered the only item I like from the company is the Spud Bar. Saved me buying a bunch of stuff, so I appreciated that.

This is worth a stop only if you happen to be walking by; I wouldn't make a special trip unless you know you want a shirt, hat, or free samples.

Idaho Candy is the company that makes the Idaho Spud candy bar that I remember from my childhood, when Mom would bring them home because she remembered them from her childhood. You either love them or you don’t, but you will certainly love Idaho Candy’s customer service and David Wagers, The Candyman.

My eye was caught by the A-frame sidewalk sign on my way back to my hotel from a stroll by the riverside park. I went in as it was late afternoon locally (but dinnertime by my body clock having just arrived from Toronto). The thought of a small candy bar as a snack was attractive.

I walked into an a large room divided into a candy and souvenir store on right and an office area right out of the 1940's on the other side. I asked one of the lady employees which was her favourite and she immediately offered me samples. I thanked her and declined a sample and asked again about a favourite. She then named BOTH Old Faithful and Huckleberry Gems as her favourites. And, after seeing indecision on my face she again offered samples.

This time I assented and was given an entire Huckleberry Gem and a goodly hunk Old Faithful. I couldn't decide and ended up with both PLUS and Idaho Spud. All together these cost $3.15.

The very friendly reception and excellent service are what brought me to get 3x the candy I had intended. I'd very much recommend a visit and that you make a purchase.

Idaho Spuds, Cherry Cocktails and Old Faithful
Candy bars have been a favorite since childhood. You can buy these candies here at the Idaho Candy Company Store, but there is not much else to see here. It would be nice to see the factory operation, but this part of the business is not open to the public.

We were out and about and came across this classic candy co. With a small store attached. Do stop in because they have free samples to try of all the candy they make. Lots of great pictures and memorabilia to take in while chomping down the goods. Wish you could see into the factory but no such luck. You can purchase all of this online but so much more fun right from the original factory.

Cute front store with lots of assorted candy made there. You can buy the 'ugly' spud bars for a deep discount.
