Beautiful state park in south east Georgia. There is a beautiful lake, hiking trails, kayak and bicycle rentals. There are pavilions and picnic shelters available to rent, a beautiful campground on the lake as well as cottage and a large group area. There is a beautiful golf course as well.

I have found an oasis! This is a beautiful State Park in southeast Georgia, well-maintained, clean, super staff, great hiking trails, large campsites that are kept so clean and inviting; the bathhouses are always immaculate and well-stocked. The lake is beautiful and inviting. We expected alligators and were told a couple of small ones are around, but we never saw one. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, and kayaking in the lake; so therapeutic! We rode bikes everywhere; the trails are so open and conducive to hiking or biking. We lazed about in our hammocks, roasted hotdogs and smores by our campfire, and simply relaxed and did nothing but rest some of the time. And we needed the rest because we discovered something is always going on at this park. Animal displays and crafts at the nature center; scavenger hunts; night hikes; movies; astronomy programs; history programs; geocaching; and the list goes on. Events and activities for the whole family. It was also great to discover that this park can serve as a hub for enjoying nearby attractions during the day and a peaceful place to rest and recover in preparation for another exciting day of adventure. We spent a week here, had an amazing time, and have already made plans to return to do it all again!

We love camping at LSW State Park. The sites have plenty of room and are fairly level. Fire rings, lantern poles, and picnic tables on each site. We had water and electric for our site. A bonus at this park is the wifi throughout the park. We were able to listen to our satellite radio app on our phone using the wifi. Friendly staff, clean bath house, and the sites are well spaced so you don't feel as if you are right on top of your neighbor. Kayaks and bikes are available for rent and there are plenty of trails for hiking. We were fortunate to book a waterfront site. Do not forget the bug repellent, especially this time of year, because the yellow flies are abundant.

We prefer cabins rather than hotels as they are cheaper and quieter. This cabin was very nice, clean, quiet and seemed almost brand new. Even with other cabins full the park is quiet and a nice place to unwind and relax. Definitely one of our favorites!

Beautiful park with nice ample RV spots. There’s a nice large lake you can boat in. There’s small swimming areas and they have life vets you can borrow for the children. The cabins are closed right now, so only RVs and tent camping for now. It’s nice and very quiet. There are some trails for hiking and biking.

If you want to slow down and take a deep breath then you’ve found your spot here. It is located right next to the swamp. This is a beautiful State Park in southeast Georgia. We will come back to the park when we come back.

If you want to slow down and take a deep breath then you’ve found your spot here at Laura Walker. The camp sites are large, level, and well maintained. The bathrooms are spotless and clean. The trail system is flat and easy for first time hikers. With it only being an hour and a half from Jacksonville, FL it’s the perfect getaway for us.

This was a wonderful place to RV camp. We liked the smallness of it. Got the last site so could camp in the handicap site. I can’t commend the volunteers enough. They were right on top of things from raking the site to seeing the grills were clean. Great job by all. Will be back.

This park has a golf course which we did not use. The campground area is small but pretty with scattered pines located on the side of a lake. There are a few campsites on the lake. I was amazed just about dusk to see all of the birds flying overhead towards the sun and the Okefenokee Swamp. I saw white ibis by the hundreds! In the campground I saw a shrike, baby cardinals, mockingbirds and bluebirds. If you are visiting the Okefenokee this is a good place to stay! We were here during the week and it was quite, both in the campground and on the lake. Ants are prevalent, bring bug spray for anything that touches the ground.

Do they have cabin rentals

Yes, there are cabin rentals. There are rustic cabins and also sportsman cabins which are very modern, with full kitchen and bath. They are on the lake, and have screened in porch facing the lake. My daughter rented the sportsman cabins and was very happy.
Is there a playground for children?

Yes there is and, like the rest of this amazing place, it is fantastic. Take your kiddies and enjoy the beautiful Laura S. Walker State Park because it is a must visit place.
Why was lake drained

No, the lake had water in it when we were there in July.

They fish early in the mornings but it's more of a boating lake in my opinion.

We're going to be staying there in June, playing four rounds. Below is a review from September, 2015. My questions are (1) Was this an accurate description of conditions in September, and (2) What are conditions now?
Thank you,

Went to try the golf course at Laura S Walker State Park. The green fees were a good value ($29.00 for 18 holes with cart). The driving range, practice green for chipping and practice green for putting were excellent. The greens were excellent and contoured. The only negative is the rough. It is some squishy thick grass that you cannot hit out of. If you are an inch out of the fairway you will only be able to punch a shot out. This squishy grass also surrounds the greens. I lost 5 balls that hit in the fairway and rolled into this crud. You cannot see your ball until you are standing directly over it.
When we talked to the maintenance workers they said they had wanted to have a 1st cut after the fairway ended but the superintendent said no.

I've played the golf course a few times and like it. I don't remember anything about the rough being extra squishy, but then again, I'm used to it. You have to remember, we are in the swamp. All grass here is "squishy", especially if it has been raining a lot. Most people don't realize that the entire town of Waycross is still part of the Okefenokee Swamp...the land of the trembling earth...which got it's name because the land is, well, "squishy". While you're here, be sure to visit the Okefenokee Swamp Park which explains a little about the land and history of the area.
