The best dried seafood price in Malaysia. You have to bargain though. The shop could make a box for your shopping to post or if you want to bring home. A lot of batik dress and tshirt on the 3rd floor. Photo shown, one of the best seafood price you could find there

All fresh and various types of goods you can find here. If you are looking for something that has in Sabah only, you may go and find it here. Cheap, friendly aunties and uncles selling a lot of stuff in one shop. Have many choices and worth every penny. Must go at least once when you travel to Sabah.

A good place to buy dried seafood like anchovies. It is cheap RM22-23 per kg after bargain. Located on second floor. Also you can buy "udang kering" or dried shrimps for RM14 per kg. You need to ask for discount to get good price.

We bought "amplang" and also "kuih cincin" for RM5 per packet. These are local snacks. A must visit and buy if you visit Sabah. This is located at the ground floor.

Wet seafood market just on the opposite you need to cross over. A lot of varieties. We didn't buy from wet seafood market just dried and they can pack nicely for you to be taken back home in a box. For wet seafood you need to ensure that it is frozen before check-in cargo. Just ask the seller. Hope this review benefits your shopping experience.

It is the biggest indoor market in Malaysia with more than 6000 stalls- wet and dry market, and food courts. Located next to custom department,in front of fish market near jetty.
Low price ,great varieties.
The foodcourt should be upgraded especially in terms of cleanliness.

Get your supply of dried seafood here – cheaper and fresh dried goods packed personally for you, ready to board the plane. Give the clothings a miss. I bought anchovies, shrimps, prawn paste, amplang (Tawau keropok) and my first Malaysian seaweed. I have tried the Korean and Japanese seaweeds, why not our own backyard ones – yellow, green and black colored. I was told that the locals eat them as it is! A bit chewy. But I have seen a TV documentary on how the seaweeds were prepared for salad and soups. Rich in collagen too – I would advice all visitors to try it out. I made soups (adding mushrooms, carrots and dried jujube fruits) and jelly (adding canned fruit cocktails). And have plenty left still. The seaweed has to be soaked 6-8 hours (or more) before being cooked. They keep well in the fridge. For the jelly, I cut the soaked seaweed into small pieces and blended them before boiling and mixing with whatever I want. For the soup, the soaked seaweed should be added last just before serving, eaten hot. Once cooled, you will end up with a jellied “soup” with no sign of the seaweed. I have not tried putting the soaked seaweed on my face though – collagen rich, right?

I was following my colleague to visit the market after lunch, the main attraction for me is to shop for dried shrimp and anchovies, I wasn't sure the price here is cheap or not, but the goods look fresh enough, I like their packaging service. What I don't really like is we have to bargain for the price, which I am not expert at, perhaps those ladies who used to buy udang kering and ikan bilis will know how to get the best deal. Ha Ha Ha.

This market is located in central Tawau. It's easy to find as it's upper floors house the urban transformation centre (UTC) with the huge UTC letters on it's roof. It opens from 5am till around 5-6pm.

The lower ground floor has dried local/traditional snacks like amplang and kuih cincin, and aluminium kitchen ware.

The ground floor has rows and rows of vegetable and fruit stalls. There are lots of fresh produce.

The first floor is the dried seafood floor. The main items sold are dried anchovies (ikan bilis) of variable size and you can either buy them whole or already cleaned & gutted, dried shrimps, dried fish, dried squid and shrimp paste (belacan). They are quite happy to pack your purchases in a cardboard box to make it easy to carry with you on your flight.

The second floor has some trinkets and souveniers.

And across the road is the wet fish market which opens till 9pm.

It's a fairly interesting market, and worth a walk through.

It is a local market that some locals would term it as a "wet market" in comparison with today's new markets. Things sold here are vegetables and dried food stuff. Upstairs there are some traders selling cheap clothing and low quality plastic toys. There is also a food court selling local food. The food court definitely need a sprucing up especially the hygiene side. I travel past this place often. When my wife needs a supply of dried anchovies and dried shrimp I would get it from here as it is the cheapest and fresh we have found. This is definitely not touristy but if you are interested to know what locals eat and how they interact, this would be a place to explore.
