About Tybee Beach Ecology Trips
Tybee Beach Ecology Trips, conducted on Tybee Island, Georgia, by marine biologist Dr. Joe Richardson, are fun and educational experiences for all ages. Typical two-hour beach trips include: high and low tide beachcombing, exploring tide pools and sandy intertidal habitats, pulling a 50 foot beach net, and learning information about the animals you find. Dr. Joe is so nice and answers any questions. Our whole family enjoyed this, trying to find ocean and beach life and learning about them. He provides shovels and nets and my elementary school son and high school daughter had a great time.

We made sure to plan a Tybee Beach Ecology Trip on our visit to Savannah. We had a group with ages ranging from 7 to 83, and everyone had a blast. Dr. Joe makes the trip exciting as he helps everyone discover the treasures on what looks like a sandy beach.

Tybee Beach is truly a wholesome, clean, family-oriented destination. And...the Tybee Ecology Trip is the best multi-generational experience you could ever have! Two hours on the beach with Dr. Joe will change your beach walks into a wonderland of surprises. We looked at a seemingly barren sandy beach and discovered a whole new world of ghost shrimp, sea worms, tiny crabs, living sand-dollars and much more. Dr. Joe supplies the equipment, the knowledge and the endless enthusiasm to captivate the entire group - irregardless of age.

Had a fairly large group of the friendliest people ever, and still there was time for each and every question to be discussed. Dr. Joe is a gentleman and a scholar, AND a scientist. He was completely engaged and attentive to everyone, brought out some unique tools, and casually led us to 4 areas of interest on the beach, each with something new to find. This is a rich experience for all ages. What we found and observed: live sand dollars, shrimp, half a dozen different crabs, jellies, sponges, anemones, snails, dozens of beautiful fish, and a pod of dolphins.
