About
We are OPEN! - We are a family owned and operated vineyard located just 7 miles from East Ellijay, and in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The rolling hills provide a perfect location for growing quality wine grapes. We invite you to come out for a tasting or a glass, while enjoying the beautiful scenery, and on weekends, enjoy live music entertainment from a great array of Georgia musicians.

Chateau Meichtry rebuttal to those who did not like being asked to give up their table.
To the reviewer who complained about Chateau Meichtry that they were asked to vacate their table because a club member wanted to sit there let’s discuss some facts. Fact one, on weekends only there is a small room that is part of the tasting room at Chateau Meichtry designated for Barrel Club members only. There is a sign, on weekends, that says this room is reserved for Barrell Club Members only. Your group obviously ignored that sign and sat at a table there anyway. Also, you stated that your group of 4 spent $1000 at Chateau Meichtry that day for wine and the concert series for the summer. Fact 2, as Barrell Club members we spend more than that each year for 2 of us to be members and then we pay for the concerts above that. So, as a Barrell Club member we expect to be able to have a table in the room reserved on weekends for members, and if the room happens to be fully occupied, with other members, we will look for seating elsewhere. There are numerous reasons we highly recommend Chateau Meichtry winery. The wine is very good. Justin, who is the wine maker and son of the owners, is extremely knowledgeable about the wines and what makes them good. The owners, Karin and Bobby McNeill, are some of the best people you will meet. They, and Wesley and the rest of the CM staff are our friends and family. Spending a day at CM, drinking wine and listening to good music makes life worth living. And the summer concerts are outstanding. There are numerous other wineries in our area, and we do go to them. But CM has always been our favorite since we retired and moved to the Jasper/Talking Rock/Ellijay section of Georgia.

    Capital Investments done well
Recent improvements and expansion to the indoor and outdoor seating areas are very well dome. Three bars are all very nice and staffed with knowledgeable personnel. Seating inside and out is lovely. The wines selection and quality are excellent.

    “Welcome Home”
Excellent in so many ways. The guys who were there to greet us with “Welcome Home” were absolutely enough to make us go back again & again. We opted for a flight with a chocolate cup in the center. The patio was very pleasant and it was quiet with a slight breeze, just a perfect day in a bra environment. We enjoyed our wine selection and our chocolate while we chatted. We made our purchases for taking home with us and enjoyed coffee as well before leaving to find a place for supper. Highly recommend. The overall visit there was the best winery experience we had and we had visited several in a few days.

    Amazing
We loved everything about Chateau Meichtry. Met the nephew and he was so friendly and made us feel like family. The tour was so interesting and learned alot about the Meichtry family. Can’t wait to come back and stay at the Villas.

The wine was fine, a passable quality for what’s to be expected from a 6-year old winery in Northern Georgia.

But what was simply inexcusable was the attitude of the majority of the employees and customers. My boyfriend and I stopped in during a trip around Northern Georgia and were treated with cold, rude behavior the entire time beyond a bearded gentleman who was very helpful initially — including stares from the employees, curt conversation when checking out, and a group of customers who openly talked about us when we sat down.

Clearly we did not match the expectations for clientele of this winery in appearance or monetary spending; when it became clear we were not going to splurge hundreds of dollars at this over-priced winery experience (which, truthfully, the wine we tasted was NOT worth it), we were treated like commoner garbage.

If you are looking for a friendly, southern winery experience in the northern Georgia mountains without the expectations of spending $200+, keep driving. This is not worth it.

We stopped by after spending day in Ellijay. Found this treat of a winery! There was band playing and they had food truck for anyone that was hungry. The staff was friendly and helpful as they were busy. Everyone wanted to enjoy summer day! I enjoyed the Pinot Grigio wine. It was light and crisp. Also tried a red wine Georgia’s Curvee that was nice. Took a bottle of white to go!

We will return again!

The grounds are beautiful and Hanna was wonderful in explaining the different wines we were tasting. I was surprised that they import their grapes from California. And I must say the food situation was really lacking. Choosing prepackaged meats and cheeses and fixing your own plate is not appealing. I would appreciate a small menu of food pairings that compliment the wine.
We went on a Monday afternoon and I thought it was busy for a weekday. Imagine weekends get very crowded.

We fell upon this vineyard when we were doing our annual wine tastings in the blue ridge area. It is very nicely set up with the Italian style buildings. We went during the week in the afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The grounds are nicely kept up.

This is such a wonderful place to spend a Georgia afternoon!!!! These are great wines by any standards, not just local. The people are so friendly and genuinely happy to serve you. The grounds are beautiful... and set up for safety and social distancing!

Found this winery on google search. Most wineries in North Georgia are not all that great including their wines. My wife and I found this winery tucked away in the woods.
The place is very nice with hints of a Tuscan chateau. The tasting room and the indoor and outdoor seating is fantastic! The tasting hosts were very nice and informative. It's a family run business taking pride in what they produce. We found two wines, a white and a red that we liked very much. They rivaled anything we would by from Oregon or North Calif.
I will be back in the Fall when the leaves are turning yellow.

Definitely recommend a visit to Chateau Miechtry. Staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. Optimal outdoor seating with a variety of wine tastings available. Most of the local wines are on the dry side. The good wine, beautiful views, and great service made for a delightful experience. Pet friendly. You can even bring along some snacks, crackers & cheese or sandwiches to enjoy with your wine. Would definitely return.
