The carving on the mountain is larger than Mt. Rushmore, and it is magnificent in its detail. The 3 mounted Confederate figures seem to be riding their horses forward right out of the stone.

Incredible carving of several Civil War Confederate Generals - carved right into the mountain rock. Sculpture was done by the same artist who carved Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. Amazing piece of artwork as well as an American history lesson.

Definitely fun for all. Would not recommend for a rainy day because that would close most attractions but great for nice days.

Looks real good from the Skylift Cable Car. Don't know how they ever got up there to carve it, real high up.

There are a lot of things to do, and there is a laser show at 8pm before the park closes. Lots of activities for different ages, and a lot of places to eat all kinds of things. Definitely worth the trip

What a hike, highly recommended for everyone. Just make sure you bring lots of water with you, and wear hats/sunglasses.

Stone Mountain was really nice. Enjoyed the light show at night. The Sky Lift and Train ride were great. Only down fall was most of the parks shops were closed and those that were open did not open til 11 or 12.

I saw on another site that "stone mountain" is closed 2016 (when we were planning to go). Is that correct?

Unless its bad weather, the place is open. Lot of people go for hikes, walks and taking bike rides.
We want to visit next month but will only have an hour or so. Can we see the monument without entering the anusement park? Can we ride the cable car withour going into the park?

Yes, you pay to "park" - $15 per car. There is no cost to enter until you ride the cable car. We didn't so the car, it may be free now...I doubt it! You can see the Monument and Laser show for free once in the gate. You... More
