Of the various territories into which we "border" from Val Fiorentina, the location of our holidays, those included in the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park are certainly among the most beautiful and wild. We are particularly familiar with the western sector, closest to us, the one to be clear which falls within the municipalities of Erto-Casso and Cimolais, embellished by the magnificent Zemola and Cimoliana valleys, as well as by stupendous mountains such as Duranno, Cima dei Preti and the incredible Bell Tower of Val Montanaia, which some nicknamed "the stone scream".
The most compromised part is obviously the one close to the Vajont dam, where the valley has lost its physiognomy forever, but for the rest the park reserves environments that are almost intact and of very high naturalistic value, which I recommend entering either by car, and above all with walking excursions, during which it is not uncommon to come across wild animals (e.g. ibex at high altitude).

We took the day trip from Milan (operated by Zani Viaggi) to visit the Dolomites.
Our guide Martha was very knowledgable and professional. The tour was in a mini van with 15 people on the tour.
We drove to Bolzano where we caught a cable car to Oberbozen. The views of the valley and Bolzano was really nice.
At Oberbozen, we took an old train up to Collabo. From here we boarded the tour bus and drove down the road to the viewing area for the dolomites and the dolomite pyramids. Fantastically unique formations.
We had a forced lunch stop at Spothotel Spögker before driving back through hair pin bends down to Bolzano.
We had about 1.5 hours in Bolzano before getting on the bus and heading back to Milan.
note - this tour has about 7-8 hrs of driving time

The distance and the curves we have to overcome from Val Fiorentina, where we spend our September holidays, do not discourage us from coming here, especially to reach the side valleys of the Vajont, such as the wild and solitary Val Zemola, dominated by the daring walls of the Duranno. But the whole territory, of great naturalistic value, deserves a broad and thorough knowledge.

Hi. I'm visiting as a family with teenagers. Bit overwhelmed by choice, would like hike, ideally involving a summit and a bit of via ferrata, but not too challenging. Any recommendations. Also interested in good wild swimming spots. Thanks for any help !

My 15 year old daughter and I would like a short day hike (not more than 6 miles) in Parco Naturale Dolomite Friulane. Can someone recommend a hike in this area with great views? We will be driving from Venice to Monguelfo and will be taking back roads/scenic roads. Again, can someone advise me on particularly great back roads through this park that have great views? Molte Grazie!
