A well planned museum full interesting exhibits, including Blue Bird. Well worth a visit for cars, motorbikes cycles and speed.

Fascinating

This is a really great museum with some real iconic cars and true classics. Great explanation boards with fascinating facts about the vehicles. So nice to have complementary displays of contemporary artefacts, media and information alongside the cars too.
Well planned out with a one way track allowing social distancing and keeping the visitors moving through the exhibit.
Very friendly welcome at the ticket desk. Quite expensive but well worth the money.

Lovely visit

Myself and my boyfriend visited and loved looking around all the the different exhibitions. All the different cars from through the years are the best part but the other exhibits are very interesting too!
Would recommend for anyone who has an interest in cars!

Excellent & interesting
Jun 2021
Great place to visit. Very interesting & well stocked museum, plenty to see over 2 floors, good information boards. The TT display was very special for us as regular TT visitors. Some aeroplane, hot air balloon & pushbike collection, also a few vintage replica shop fronts. Across a yard is a separate display dedicated to Donald Campbell & his fateful speed attempt, very sad. Nice gift shop & the tea room has a good selection to choose from but the icing on the cake was the gorgeous view from the outside area looking across a river to a wooded area & the Windermere railway.

Eclectic and interesting collection of motoring history
Aug 2021
There is an eclectic collection of cars, motorcycles, scooters and pedal cycles from the early days of motoring right up to the 1990s here. There is plenty of information on the exhibits - they all have a card displaying some background on the various vehicles. There's no particular theme, other than personal transport, but there is a wide selection of vehicles from luxury saloons from the 1920s and 30s to 1950s micro cars - they even have a Sinclair C5 and a DeLorean (sadly without a flux capacitor or any of the other time travel tech!) Most of the vehicles are British as you'd expect, but there are some continental vehicles of interest such as a Citroen Traction Avant and a Trabant. It's amusing looking at those with tax discs to see when they were last on the road (or at least legal for the road)

There is also a large collection of general autmobilia - there are recreations of workshops and fake shop fronts displaying model cars of the past (I'm sure I wasn't the only one saying to myself "I had that one, and that one" - I said it about a few of the full size cars too) as well as old road signs, garage equipment, etc. A treat for the enthusiast (lke me) and an exercise in nostalgia for those who perhaps are less enthusiastic.

It's not the biggest museum, not a full day out by any means, but there's a lot packed in there and you can easily spend an hour or more mooching around the collection. There is also an exhibition in a seperate building paying tribute to Malcolm and Donald Campbell with full size recreations of one of the Bluebird land speed record cars and two of the water speed record boats, along with extensive information and video about the Campbell's and their records.

The onsite cafe is clean and bright with a nice view out over the river - it's not the cheapest around - I had the "special of the day," a pheasant burger with ginger and spring onions, She Who Must Be Obeyed had a soup with a big hunk of crusty bread with a couple of brews - the bill came to £21.90. However, we both enjoyed it and the portions were reasonably generous so I don't think it's that excessive.

The staff we spoke to, both in the museum and the cafe, were helpful and friendly. Overall my wife and I enjoyed our visit and would recommend it.

Great way to spend a rainy afternoon
Aug 2021
Our planned walk with family was curtailed due to the weather so as a last minute thing we booked online to visit the museum.
Online booking was easy and admission was smooth. Once inside there is so much to see with some quirky exhibits intermingled with the more expected items.
The Donald Campbell exhibition which is next door is really interesting.
This is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. You don't have to be a car enthusiast, there is so much more to see.
Thoroughly recommend

Amazing Campbell exhibition
Aug 2021
What a surprise this museum was, quite compact but an amazing collection of cars which took me back in time when I was a lot younger. There were also motor bikes, bicycles & toys from a bygone age. We arrived very early to avoid any crowds, but pleased to say it was ideal as it rapidly filled up afterwards which is good. The biggest pleasure was the Campbell exhibition, I was a huge fan of Donald Campbell in my youth so this was really interesting for me.

Interesting for car/bike fans

Visited during our week staying nearby. Very well laid out, although some extra room to actually see inside some of the exhibits especially towards the end wouldn’t go amiss. Good for a Petrolhead to see so many old favourites, although for nostalgia maybe a Fiat 500 would be a good addition, as it changed motoring in Europe before the Mini came along.
All in all though it was a good way to spend a couple of hours, with a nice cafe & plenty of parking.

Great experience
Aug 2021
We went as a family of 5: 4 adults and a 7yr old. We all really enjoyed it. I loved the Quiz book idea. Great way for the kids to learn and keep them interested. I was very happy with the one way system and there were sanitizer stations all over. A great 2-3 hours spent and very happy we wnt.
