Fabulous indoor place to visit when it’s raining
Fabulous day out, lots to see, especially loved the added details of the shops with the cars parked outside. Definitely value for money as you get to visit the Campbell exhibition as well. Knowledgeable friendly staff make it a good half day especially when the weather isn’t great
Thanks for your lovely review Jenny

We wanted to see Donald Campbell's BlueBird car and boat but got to see so much more. This museum was excellent. The variety of cars and bikes was quite extensive. Almost all exhibits (spread over 2 floors) were in 1st class order and well presented. The Bluebirds were in a separate exhibition building and there was also a video presentation which was also very good. Thoroughly enjoyed the few hours we spent there.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit

    Great dog friendly car museum
Lovely museum , it was small enough to get around easily but large enough so that they was plenty to do. The building with the Campbell blue birds in was very interesting as well. The other big plus point is dogs are allowed in so a great raining day place to visit.
Cejsmith, thank you so much for your kind words following your visit to Lakeland Motor Museum. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit and found our collection to be both manageable and engaging. We strive to create a welcoming and accessible environment for all our visitors and their canine companions and hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you and your furry friend back to the museum in the future.

A really great museum. Looks small from the outside but packed with interesting cars, bikes, motorbikes and even shop window displays. Added bonus of a Campbell and Bluebird exhibition. A really excellent museum.

    Good day out
Took one of our grandsons on a day out to the museum, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We had to stop him from racing round answering the questions on the free quiz trail booklet which was well thought out and just pitched right - not too hard, not too easy. He received his pencil and certificate prize at the end and was happy to go away to check the answers on the internet. We didn't go in the cafe but assume it is the same high standard of other Ambio cafes that we have been in. Lots of great exhibits and all in great condition, information on each very interesting without overwhelming. We loved the old games machines upstairs, take lots of 20p's for a visit. Husband was surprised not to find a Reliant amongst the exhibits, we have happy memories of ours from the early days of marriage. There is a well stocked gift shop, maybe some things a bit pricey but then you're not forced to buy. Overall well worth a visit.
Thank you for sharing this positive review of Lakeland Motor Museum. We're thrilled to hear that you and your family had a wonderful time exploring our collection of vintage vehicles and engaging exhibits. Your comments about the free quiz trail booklet, designed for children, and the enthusiasm of your grandson are particularly heartwarming as we're committed to creating interactive experiences that appeal to all ages, and it appears that our efforts are paying off. We appreciate your endorsement of our museum and look forward to welcoming you back again to discover more hidden gems.

Excellent family attraction on a rainy day
Great attraction for a rainy day. We visited in August 2023, with entry pice £11.00 for adults. Plenty of historical cars and motorbikes. Aldo a separate attraction dedicated to Donald Campbell (plus father Malcolm) with full size replicas of the Bluebird cars and boats that achieved the speed records.
Gordomm960, thank you for taking the time to post a review of Lakeland Motor Museum which, as you rightly say, is the perfect place to while away a rainy Lake District afternoon. We're pleased that you enjoyed viewing our exhibits, including the Donald (and Malcolm) Campbell exhibition, and hope you will consider returning in the future.

    Good family trip
Small place packed with great exhibits. Really enjoyed the cars , bikes , bicycles and even the racing game models they used to play back then. Good on a rainy day and otherwise.
Thank you for posting such a positive review of our museum. We appreciate your kind words. As you discovered, our smaller size allows visitors to appreciate the detail and craftsmanship of each exhibit and we believe that the overall experience is enhanced because of this. We're delighted to know that you enjoyed your visit so much and hope we can look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Great place with fab cars & other interesting paraphernalia
We had a great trip here, there was loads to see from old cars to old signs and tools, it was like going back in time and really interesting. A personal favourite was the 1966 amphicar which they showed a video of. We were given a quiz to do which was interesting for my niece and there were loads of photo opportunities. Also included in the price was entry to the Donald Campbell Bluebird exhibition which was fascinating. I would definitely recommend a trip here if you get the opportunity.
Mariewarrington07, we'd like to thank you for your kind review and your recommendation of Lakeland Motor Museum. We're thrilled that you had an enjoyable time exploring our collection of vintage vehicles and taking a trip down 'Memory Lane'. We appreciate your reference to the quiz which we provide for younger visitors. and we're glad that it provided an element of fun and engagement for your niece. As you say, the ample photo opportunities throughout the museum allow visitors to capture memorable moments and relive their experiences upon returning home. Thank you again for visiting us and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.

Very enjoyable visit to this museum. Dozens and dozens of interesting cars and other exhibits. Helpful owners allowed us to leave to have lunch next door and re-enter for a last quick walk around after lunch.

Very well presented display of all types of motor vehicles and motorcycles plus other automobilia. Very informative and has display items that will appeal to all ages. Very much liked the TT display and videos. On my visit there was a classic car show in the surrounding car park which made it even more interesting👍

A very disappointing visit today. The museum itself has a varied and interesting collection. However, our visit was marred by poor control in the current climate of the Covid-19 pandemic. You book timed tickets in advanced as73l expected but there were just too many people in the museum at one time given the confined space & one way system in operation. It certainly is not suitable for taking young children at the current time. Social distancing was almost impossible in some areas. It was very stressful for us as a family and we are left feeling anxious & frustrated. The cafe was no better managed and certainly too busy and unorganised. Numbers were not being monitored. Too expensive for quality of food on offer. We really feel that there was an air of money over genuine concern to manage the facilities in accordance with required measures. We will be avoiding any further indoor venues during our stay.

We, like many businesses in the area, have had to introduce pre booking and online booking to ensure that we are operating in a Covid 19 secure manner. We have reduced capacity into the Museum to ensure we maintain social distancing, We are operating in very strange times, and have put new procedures in place for the safety of our customers and staff

We visited Lakeland during October, having pre booked tickets and an entry timeslot due to Covid regulations.

It's a fantastic museum, with so many vehicles, accessories, and stories to discover. There's something for the whole family here, due to the wide variety of exhibits.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in motoring, and it'll likely interest those without one as well.

Had some difficulty with the website in that every time I attempted to pay to book, it informed me there had been an error. I took a trip down to the museum, approached the counter to be informed they could not help with the website, and nor could they sell me a ticket. I was informed that I should wait for half an hour until the next available time slot where I may be able to purchase a ticket, but only if they don't sell out I the meantime. When I did eventually get in after finally getting the website to work, the same member of staff continued to be rude on our entry. I found the displays well executed, but the size of the museum disappointing when compared to Haynes, the British motor museum, or Beaulieu. I thoroughly advise against a trip here.

We're very sorry to read you didn't enjoy your visit to our museum and that you had issues with the booking system. I would like to apologise for the level of customer service you received and assure you that this is not of our usual standard. With over 30,000 exhibits and a separately located Bluebird exhibition centre, I am sorry to hear you were disappointed. However, we are a self funding exhibition and do our very best to make sure we cater for a wide range of customers. We hope you can give us another chance and visit us again in the future.

We previously visited the Motor Museum many years ago when it was located at Holker Hall just outside Grange-over-Sands. I think that the new purpose built premises have allowed more to be put on show in a more accesible manner.

We had purchased our tickets online in advance of our trip to the Lake District and as we arrived at the time specified on our tickets there was no problem in immediately gaining access. Visitor numbers were restricted while we were there and there was no problem in maintaining social distancing.

There really is so much to see, more than I could describe in a few short paragraphs. I'll let my photos speak for themselves. Two exhibits were of particular interest to me, the adverts for Clincher Tyres made by the North British Rubber Company in Edinburgh. This is because my first job after leaving school was to work for a few years in the office of its successor company (Uniroyal Ltd) at the Edinburgh factory where Clincher Tyres were made.

After spending a couple of hours in the main building we moved on to the adjacent building which houses an exhibition dedicated to the land and water speed record efforts of Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald who tragically died in 1967 while trying to break the water speed record on Coniston Water.

This museum is surely an absolute must for anyone interested in the history of motoring.

We purchased tickets on line as insisted by the website. Unfortunately I then had a test and trace alert advising me to self isolate. I telephoned this morning ( less than 24 hours after booking) and was told the website clearly states tickets are non refundable or transferable and they couldn't do anything. I pointed out this seems a very unreasonable stance at the present time and was told "If we refunded everyone because of this we would be giving loads of refunds and we need to protect the business!" I asked if they could at least give us a credit voucher but the answer was the same. In the present climate this attitude is very unreasonable you can not walk in and purchase a ticket and must pre book. Customer service is definitely lacking.

We are sorry that you are unhappy with our Terms and Conditions . However all of our tickets need to be pre-booked, as we need to stagger arrivals to ensure that we can socially distance customers. We also need to allocate time slots to ensure that we adhere to the guide lines. Our Terms and Conditions to clearly state that all bookings are non-transferable and non-refundable these are clearly stated on the website, on your confirmation and prior to booking you tick to confirm that you are happy with the Terms and Conditions.

We planned a last minute trip to the Lakeland Motor Museum on a wet and windy day. Our party consisted of myself, my husband, our 6 & 9 year olds and my parents. We spent a good two hours at the museum and all thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids followed the museums quiz which kept them entertained whilst still giving the adults the time to read the various displays. The museums contains so many interesting exhibits and is well laid out. It brought back many family memories seeing various vehicles that people had loved over the years. Especially grandads beloved Spitfire which the kids loved hearing. It’s a great museum and definitely worth a visit. I am sure all 6 of us will repay it another visit at some point.

We pre-booked our tickets on line which was simple and efficient. The car park is well maintained with plenty of room. Covid-19 restrictions based upon a well planned one way system and traffic lights to go up/ down stairs to maintain social distancing.

The dog friendly motor museum is very well laid out with a good and interesting assortment of vehicles with informative plaques plus various other automobila. My only concern was having reached an age where you are older than some museum exhibits.

Whilst at the site we noted various types of family groups with various age ranges that all seemed to be enjoying their experience

Thoroughly recommend a visit on its own for a rainy day and making use of the on site cafe or as part of a combined with the nearby steam railway and/ or lake cruise which also cater for dogs.

What sets the Lakeland Motor Museum apart from others is the Campbell exhibition which is fascinating and contains a number of faithful replicas of land and water bluebirds as well as a good range of information on the Campbell family and their land and water speed records. The main motor museum is pretty standard fare but still well laid out and with good signage. Very good Covid19 safety, saw periodic cleaning of touch areas, visitors are only allowed on timed visit slots (must book in advance) and there is a well laid out one-way system.

Stopped here on our drive up to the Lakes. Great place, full of cars, motorbikes and bicycles. Lots of history mixed in with the exhibits and lots of information presented to visitors. Some lovely old games to play on too for 20p a go!
Really enjoyed having a wonder round. It cost us £9 per adult and took around 1 1/2 hours to get around taking our time.
Also had a cafe and could combine the ticket to involve a little river cruise but we stuck with the museum only and didn’t go into the cafe.
Certainly worth a visit.

It's the Lake District, it rains a lot. Fortunately the Motor Museum is just the place to while away a few hours when the weather is even too wet for a walk. Suitable for small kids too who can marvel at the array of bikes, cars and motorbikes there. Also worth mentioning the riverside cafe next to the museum. Excellent good value food.

So if its too wet to walk of the kids need some entertainment, this is just the right plcae and not too expensive.
