First of all, the pleasant and efficient staff at the Mountain Creek Inn saved this from being a horrible review. Last June I made reservations for a Fantasy in Lights bed 'n breakfast package, staying at one of the three-bedroom villas as a Christmas for...More

The day after touring the Fantasy In Lights exhibits at Callaway Gardens we drove through the gardens. Due to it being the beginning of January there was nothing much to see or do. The down side was only a few venues were open, but on...More

We really enjoyed driving through the light show. Although we are “young at heart” this drive through would be excellent for pre schoolers. The many different Christmas scenes with the beautiful Christmas music- some from The Nutcracker were most enjoyable. We stayed at the Lodge...More

My first experience at Callaway Gardens wasn't so good. I booked a room at the Lodge and Spa in advance for the New Year. When I arrived, I was told that my room had been given to someone else and there were no more rooms...More

We visited the Fantasy In Lights after New Year's with a bed and breakfast cottage package. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin in the Southern Pines area. The cottage was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed the lights on the Jolly Trolly. It was...More

It was very nice. Plenty of activities for the kids. The Fantasy in Lights was beautiful. My grand daughter loved The Smores area. You buy the fixins for making a smore. You go to the area and toast it in the fire. So cool.

Callaway Gardens Friday Farmer's Market (2 Replies)
For the past few years, Callaway Gardens has offered free admission to Robin Lake on Friday afternoons so that people can visit the Farmer's market. I believe admission was free after 5 pm but not before. As the season is about to start, I wondered if they have maintained this policy. On the website it states that there is a $5 per person admission fee - but they have stated so before and never actually charged anything. It certainly seems silly to charge people money to purchase...More

Callaway Gardens Area Dining (5 Replies)
I've ready most of the posts and it seems the restaurants on the Callaway property are either not very good or over priced or both. how far do we have to drive to enjoy a nice glass of wine with a reasonable priced good meal?

Also for southern buffet lunch go to the Bulloch House in Warm Springs. They also have a great seafood buffet on Friday and Sat. nights.

Charleston - Savannah - Atlanta (15 Replies)
Hello All! We (my wife and myself) are planning a 8 day vacation early November and before detailed planning, would appreciate your inputs as to the general timeline and main attractions. We want to travel on a leisurly pace and get a taste of each place without trying to "see it all". Our initial thoughts are: 3 nights Charleston: Historic District, Magnolia Plantation, Middleton Place, Edmonston-Alston House, Aiken-Rhett , and leaving time for shopping. 2 nights Savannah - not fans of...More

Hi lirsun, Looks like a great trip... may I suggest a tiny amendment to your itinerary and throw one more destination in there as well. Add a night's stay between Charleston and Savannah in the historic community of Beaufort. There is plenty of history and charm in town, and there are some excellent bed and breakfasts. You can explore Beaufort in the morning and head out to Hunting Island State Park in the afternoon to head to the beach and discover the true natural splendor of the...More
