About
Napoleon's Last Headquarters is an authentic place 17 June 1815. It’s almost dark, it’s raining. Napoleon’s troops are exhausted. They feel the presence of enemy forces. The Emperor ordered them to stop and his aides de camp spotted an unoccupied residence. It was The Caillou Farm. It will be Napoleon’s Last Headquarters. This ancient farmhouse, now a museum, highlights the events of that famous night thanks to military and civilian witnesses. This is where Napoleon laid out his strategy and battle plans. In authentic surroundings, the museum exhibits objects pertaining essentially to the French army, including one of Emperor Napoleon’s camp beds. The Last HQ of Napoleon (DQGN) was an historic building before becoming a museum. In fact, the farmhouse has a history of its own, both before and after the Napoleonic era. Furthermore, the farmhouse and its outbuildings are officially listed historical monuments.

Although the brochures seem to indicate that this small museum is most aimed at children, we decided to take a look. Certainly not disappointing, actually very nice with a useful audio tour (included in the low price). Certainly not just for the children and recommended to walk around here for an hour if you are in the area.

The site is a bit lost by the road but easy to access and find room to park. Maybe a little expensive , because I thought I would find more ... it’s a shame. We were lucky to come across a troupe of actors outside who made the visit more interesting.

This little museum – also called ‘the Ferme du Caillou’ – is part of the general 'Waterloo Battlefield' patrimony and shares a website with the rest, but it is a few minutes’ drive from the Butte du Lion. It seems to get rather overlooked, which is a shame. It is a modest little place (with a modest entrance fee of 4 euros, or less if you qualify for the many ‘reductions’ categories) but it has some fascinating exhibits, including Napoleon's camp bed, the tables and tablecloth on which his final battle plans were made, and a skeleton from the battle!
I've been several times with visiting friends and the museum staff are always very kind and welcoming.
Inside, the house is accessible for wheelchair users and the staff open the side gate to provide an accessible entrance route.
In the summer, the pretty walled garden is a lovely place to spend a quiet moment.
Finally, for fans of Les Miserables, the garden is home to Victor Hugo's balcony from his time in Waterloo.

This is a very interesting small museum set in nice grounds (we had a nice picnic lunch there). The displays in the museum are top quality.

I went to this place on the day of re-opening on June 5th, 2015. Now looks like a jewel (see Pictures) and really worthwhile seeing. The self guided tour with a tablet is in about 6 languages.

While the site is small, it is interesting to those who are interested in the French Empire to see the bed, some of the things the Emperor wore or liked.
Very highly recommended in conjunction with the Butte and Wellington headquarter.

This time I went to this historical site with friends from the UK! We all liked the visit very much. You need a little more than one hour to do it in a leisurely speed. Information is provided in at least 6 language with head phones.

Seemed Napoleon had slightly better quarters than Wellington and made a hasty retreat after the battle was lost. Interesting place to visit and another must for travellers exploring the Battle of Waterloo. Each of the museums in the area seemed to have something different to offer so don't be afraid of getting overloaded, make a point of doing the Wellington museum in the centre of Waterloo town for a perspective from the victors side!

We visited this museum after seeing Wellington's headquarters and the battlefield museum, mound and panorama, so we were a bit overloaded about the battle. Even so, it was quite interesting to see how Napoleon lived and worked, and the fact that it was his actual headquarters added to the fascination.
