- Joseph HClare, Michigan664 contributionsIncredible viewsThough it has a reputation as a "tourist trap", we found Rock City to be a great way to spend the morning. The 1.5 mile walk though the gardens was beautiful, and the view from Lover's Leap incredible. I enjoyed the Fairytale Gardens that I remembered visiting many years ago as a child. Highly recommended as a stop in Chattanooga.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- NorCal-traveler08Orangevale, California2,317 contributionsFun day exploring Rock CityRock City is a self-guided walk through a rock nature area. Lots of steps, inclines, narrow passages(they have a handicapped alternative path for those with mobility issues). Lot of view points, bridges, caves, waterfalls to stop and take pictures. They have a cafe, gift shop, fudge shop, vendors selling items. You can go in and out all day. Lots of parking. We bought tickets on-line and didn't have to wait in the ticket line. The suspension bridge was great and it was fun to see the 7 States view point.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 13, 2023
- Njeri WAtlanta, Georgia187 contributionsHoliday LightsWe've visited Rock City before during the day but it is even more magical at night when they have their holiday lights set up. The garden has tons of lights and they've created themed areas around the park. We spent 2.5 hours walking around and still felt like we could have stayed longer if the kids weren't starting to get tired. They also sell food so you can make an evening of it.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 27, 2023
- Georgia87120 contributionsNice family placeInteresting place. Worth a couple of hours. Went with my wife and college age daughters. We all enjoyed it and was worth two or three hours. Went during the day and then back at night to see the lights.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 22, 2023
- Old PantherBainbridge, Georgia302 contributionsDo “SEE Rock City” - Especially at Christmas! This “great tourist trap” IS a GREAT tourist trap! If you’ve not done “SEE ROCK CITY,” do! we had before but came specifically for the Christmas lights and were not disappointed! Great displays - very enjoyable! Very pretty! Not sure we saw seven states but was a pretty early evening and we did see a long ways!Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 23, 2023
- WickedCakesColumbus, Ohio1,499 contributionsLovely viewsWe went early, when they opened on a cool November morning. We enjoyed all the trails, the rock formation was awesome. And because it was day time, the Xmas lights were off, but I think they could’ve been on. There were some lights on (at a few areas), but I think it would’ve been nice to have the Xmas lights on. The kids area, was just as awesome as the 5 state view area. Very neat experience.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 25, 2023
- Alicia_JA360 contributionsBeautiful Display But LOUD ChildrenThis was my first visit to Rock City. I visited specifically to see the holiday light display. The lights were absolutely gorgeous and the Christmas music playing was divine. I especially loved the Fairyland Caverns and the Mother Goose Village. My only complaint were the hundreds of children screaming and running all over the place, some too young to appreciate what they were experiencing. They ruined the calm the lights and music would otherwise achieve. I would be willing to pay 4x the cost of my ticket if Rock City offered an adult-only night(s). Otherwise, this is a one and done. I would not return.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten January 2, 2024
- WindsweptSaintPanama City, Florida24 contributionsBeautiful LightsWe have been coming here to see the Christmas lights for a few years. It is a wonderful family place to go to enjoy Christmas and get a little bit of a work out traveling the maze of rocks and tunnels. The terrain can be a little bit tricky so make sure to wear comfy flat shoes. Defiantly a place I would recommend for an annual trip.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2024
- JillNew Jersey766 contributionsCool spot! This was a very unique place to visit. Some beautiful rocks and lookouts and quirky characters and storybook areas. The admission price was a bit steep. Overall, we enjoyed it and really appreciated that it was dog-friendly! More attractions should be!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- Texoma FamilySherman, Texas669 contributionsGo while your body is youngSuch a quirky and unique destination. Not really much education along the way, but it’s a great experience. My teenagers loved it. The fairy tales were so ancient that I was worried my gen z kids would not enjoy that part of it. But I was wrong. They had fun revisiting all the timeless classics of their childhood. This is definitely NOT a handicap friendly activity. So go while your body is young and able to climb, bend and twist because it’s worth it.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 7, 2024

We visited Rock City for the Christmas light display and it was spectacular. We went in the beginning, so we were able to see some of it with daylight and then watched it transform as the sun set. We thought the timed entry was great-We were able to walk the entire light trail without really encountering anyone else along the way. My toddler loved the lights, especially the part synced to music. Overall, we thought was a great, family friendly and COVID safe activity!

We loved our trip to Rock City! Ahead of time, I thought this was going to be overpriced and lame, but we all agreed it was worth the price of admission. The views from Lovers Leap were spectacular, and the rock features and gardens are beautiful. Yes, this is catered to tourists and parts of it are kind of kitschy, but for us that was part of its charm. We really enjoyed hunting for all the gnomes and in Fairyland Caverns, we felt like little kids again. Our lunch at Cafe Seven was awesome and was reasonably priced for lunch at an attraction (we thought priced similarly to any casual sit-down restaurant) and had the added benefit of a great view. We definitely will come back to this and “See Rock City” again!

We had a fabulous time at Rock City Summer 2020. Masks were worn by all attending the attraction and lots of updates were being constructed in and around the place but none interferred with the enjoyment of the experience. We even got the rare opportunity to eat at the rarely open Cafe 7 atop the highest peak of Lookout Mountain! Great views and delicious food! We enjoyed the gem purchase opportunities right outside the cafe area around the gem panning section. I was super glad to see that the old wooden partitions which used to sillouhette the Fairytale Cavern diorammas were removed so it was MUCH easier to get great shots of the inventive scenes within. This is my favorite section and kids love it just as well. I will say that with the social distancing in the primary gift shop it was overcrowded and the line was just WAY too long to wait in so best to shop there FIRST before going into the gardens section. Don't miss the fudge kitchen at the exit- everyone can see how fudge is traditionally made in the old copper Kettle & Marble Table cooling method. See Rock City Today and make memories to last a lifetime.

Rude employees. They have advertised on visitchattanooga.com (the visitor center for Chatt) a $1 off admission. It states you must print and present at ticket office. The guy refused to honor it saying they don’t take coupons. I then called the visitors center and they said Rock City is the one who submits that to their website. So I went and spoke to another employee who said she won’t accept it but if I wanted TO GO to my hotel (staying at Airbnb) and get a travel host coupon book, they have $1 off in it! How terribly rude customer service. All over $1! It’s overpriced as it is and ran by teenagers. There was no one at the ticket entrance working and people were just walking through! Glad I’m honest even though they were being petty. In this bad economy they should be thankful people are coming in 100 degree weather to this!

Prices start high and climb quickly. Premium event? Extra charge. Christmas lights / evening? Extra charge. Weekend? Extra charge. Supply and demand, I get it. But it was almost $100 to get our family of four, two of which were kids less than 6 years old, in the door.
Unfortunately, as the price continues to climb, they also close off some attractions due to the number of people in the park. The swinging bridge and the lover's leap viewpoint were two examples that were closed off due to the number of people there when we visited.
This was a fun place to take the kids. Lots to see and do. But its also a tourist trap. Glad to have done it once, but wouldn't return at full peak price.

Had pre purchased our tickets for December 20, 2020. We arrived somewhat early and was told we would have to wait until 3:30 the time of the tickets, we went to the ticket office to ask if there was anything we could do about purchasing earlier tickets etc. the BOSS went to speak to the employee OLGA and told her they were not at capacity. However, the rude employee still would not let us in until exactly our time. Every time we would check to see if we could enter she would specifically come and stop us.

We really enjoyed our time at Rock City. The garden and rock formations were really impressive. Unfortunately, it was foggy on the day we came so we weren't able to fully enjoy the views like we would have if it had been a clear day. We probably would have stayed longer but despite this, definitely enjoyed walking through. The Fairyland Caverns are a little odd, could even be creepy for kids and felt like unnecessary filler.
They seemed to be limiting tickets/reservations online so we ended up booking at a time of day that wasn't our first choice-only to find that when we got there, people were in line getting tickets-so it didn't really seem like they were enforcing how many people were going in. It was actually pretty crowded for about the first half of it and we had to consciously spread out to give everyone their space.

this is definitely touristy and kid friendly. I did not expect it to be so curated to tourists and paved. the views were wondrous but I felt like it was all too staged for us vs hiking, which is great for dogs, kids, elders. It was also steep price $20 or so to go through the "attraction" which was technically a mountain with paths. Gnome exhibit was a bit weird. Would have liked it to be less music/touristy.

We drove over 2 hrs to see Rock City and when we got there were told it cost $23 00 per person just to see Water Fall and Look Out. The woman in the Gift Shop was very rude to us. As seniors we asked if there was another place to see it and she said, we could try hang gliding. Never will recommend this place. Unfriendly! Over priced! Cheaply made Birdhouses!

Unexpected gem with scenic vistas and waterfall. Easy hike up and down, beautiful gardens along the way.
There are bathrooms and refreshments at the top

What are the wait times today
Written July 4, 2024
Our availability to go is summer, June & July anytime. Also last week of November and winter break, last week of December and first week of January. When would be the best time to avoid crowds and long lines. If we go early will that help at all?
Written February 24, 2024
Going earlier is better. Parking is limited (especially if you happen drive a full size dually truck).

I would like to go to Rock City Garden, but also to the enchanted gardens. I was thinking on getting there at 2:30pm and just stay until it gets dark to see the enchanted garden. I know I have to pay for both things, my question is: Can I stay there until it gets dark? Or will they make me leave and re-enter again? Is there a parking fee? Maybe I can leave to get a bite and come back to the enchanted gardens. Any suggestions will be helpful
Written December 9, 2021
No parking fees. They do clear the park before the enchanted lights begin

I have a bit a a fear of heights. I can handle standing and looking out, but I can't stand on the edge of something very high ( I won't be looking off the edge). I saw that there is a suspension bridge. Will I have to cross that bridge? Also, do you have to ride the incline train or is it all accessible by walking? Do you have any other info that you think would be helpful for me? Thank you.
Written May 3, 2021
There is a solid bridge also so you don’t have to go over the suspension bridge. You don’t really have to get close to many edges for long that I can recall. Also there is a road leading up to their parking lot so you don’t have to go on the incline either. I hope that’s helpful to you and that you have a great visit.

is there any company organising tour from Atlanta to rock city ? Can’t seem to find
Written June 2, 2019
This is a tough question. I personally do not know of any companies in Atlanta that organize/offer a day trip to Rock City. There are companies that offer tours of 4 days or more from Atlanta but they also include visiting multiple sites in multiple cities.
There are sites that you can do research on about taking a bus or possibly an Uber but unfortunately I cannot give you that information here. Good luck getting the additional information you seek. Have fun if/when you get there.
