Great place for a walk and an ice cream with family. There is a bakery nearby and kids playground. Very nice in Summer or Winter. Good place to stop between Philip Island and Melbourne for a break from driving. Plenty of places to throw a line in for a spot of fishing as well.

This small jetty isn't too far from off the South Gippsland Highway. The jetty is quite small but there is a substantial amount of history attached to it. Some of the earliest settlers in the region were fishermen so there has been a jetty here since about 1890.

Apparently the shed was used by the fishermen to store fish. Ice was delivered daily from Dandenong and fish were sent to market by rail from Tooradin Station. The jetty was much larger then than it is today.

So these days...what will you see? It's just a beautiful reminder of the past and the views on the jetty are really serene. It's worth stopping to spend time here and centre yourself.

There isn't a lot to commend Tooradin. Last time I went through the place even the good bookstore appeared shut. It has a number of eating options however and there is a nice little waterfront area of which this jetty is a part.

This combined with the foreshore reserve and - when it's open - the local historical museum are the three things that might combine to get you to stop your car and stretch your legs a little. It's pretty easily navigated - at the time of my visit it wasn't one of those decrepit old things hanging on by a thread - and if you do grab some take-away from a nearby store it's not a bad part of town to sit and watch the world go by.

Pretty to take people from other countries and show them the area, with the pelicans and great if the sun in out.
