    Spectacular
I attended the castle for a reception following friend’s wedding vow renewal, and it was just lovely. I also came earlier in the day and took a tour. I loved the view from the top, as well as seeing the greenhouse and the bees and the murals, and feeling like I was actually transported back in time. I highly recommend a visit here, whether attending for a special event, or simply coming to take a tour of the grounds.

    Beautiful Castle
My husband and I really enjoyed walking around the castle grounds. We didn’t realize at first that our tour guide was the actual owner and thought that was amazing. He was very thorough when discussing the castle and murals. You can view the towers which have amazing views. I wish you could get to see more inside but they let you book rooms at the castle so unfortunately you can’t. There is two places inside that you can view. Stunning place. Definitely recommend visiting.

An amazing experience for the whole family, or just a curious couple.
Amazing views, and wonderful hosts. As a whole it was not exactly what I expected, it was much better. An eclectic collection of religious history, botanical curiosities, just plain enjoyment with games and amazing sites. If you're visiting Helen, or live here as I do, you're doing yourself a disfavor if you don't spend 2 or three hours enjoying this magnificent place.

    Sophist's Dream
Where do I begin? Expectations? Exceeded. The castle? A passion project over 15 years in the making. I'm not sure how to describe our time at Uhuburg. My wife and I stayed two nights in the Queen's chamber. The furnishings and room were worthy of the name. We were welcomed by Ty and Tara who act as chamberlains (stewards?) for the overnight guests. They prepare a tea and coffee service in addition to breakfast every morning and dessert in the evenings. Dietary concerns are accomodated (my wife and I are mostly plant-based and you'll be amazed what they come up with). Staying here is a B&B experience, not a hotel restaurant. The grounds are breathtaking. Even more so when you understand this is a family's vision (because although Bob is the owner / creator, his daughter Naomi and wife Janine support what he has crafted). Uhuburg is a sophist's dream. The pursuit of truth, the value and appreciation of nature, the growth of food, and celebration of life are writ on the stones and walls of this place. Gardens of contemplation, ponds of reflection, and statues of classical and romance antiquity give a sense of both removal from the mundane and a grounding in nature and thought. The murals depicting several religions, with more planned, serve as an exploration of mankind's relationship with divinity. The tour, which we attended with Bob as our guide, was as enlightening as it was entertaining. Bob's past as a college professor is evident and I wish I had more time to discuss theology and philosophy with him. In all, this was an amazing experience. Climb the tower, walk the walls, sit next to the pond after sundown and listen to the frogs (some of them will go a 1/2 pound), read in the library or close your eyes in the tropical atrium and daydream. Uhuburg was a balm for the soul for my wife and I. Thank you to Bob, Ty, Tara, and Naomi (and Janine, although we didn't meet). Uhuburg is a vision, manifested in reality.

    Excellent
We stayed in Uhuburg Castle for two nights in the Queen room. It was absolutely amazing. We received a warm welcome. The views were spectacular and the breakfasts were delicious. The owner of the castle gave us a morning tour which was very interesting and informative. We were close to Helen and could easily drive to Helen. The grounds were beautiful. We would readily go back and spend time there. We loved it!

    A place of Beauty
Uhuburg Castle is a place of beauty and contemplation. Can't wait to return asap. Loved the casual atmosphere to explore on our own and pick up tours as we desired. Loved the recreation of being a self-sustaining castle with food forests, gardens, and planting the return of ancient trees. Can't wait also to see events also. Would be a great setting for plein aire painting hint hint. Thank you.

    Amazing experience!
This castle was amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. You have to go see it yourself and hear the history. It was started until 2018, yet it looks like it's 100's of years old. Beautiful grounds and walkways. You can access the very top of the castle by climbing some manageable steps. The view from up there is spectacular! We were very lucky because the man that drove us from the parking lot up to the castle via the shuttle was the owner! Currently they are only open on Saturdays and Sundays. You can go online and sign up. They also have a bed and breakfast service there. I think that would be a nice thing to do! Amazing gardens on the inside and outside of the castle. Tons of sculptures and murals. Go see this!

    Amazing place to visit!
My husband Sidney & I loved our wonderful visit. Bob Marthai himself gave us an amazing, informative guided tour of the grounds, gardens, murals, statuary, fountains, ponds & greenhouse. A Docent gave us a marvelous tour of the great room, parlor & tropical garden inside the gorgeous castle. We even enjoyed a special Fencing exhibition! We had a marvelous visit! ❤️ We highly recommend Uhuburg Castle!

    Fun time!
Beautiful castle, knowledgeable guides, and cool swordsmanship exhibit! The grounds were beautiful and it was a great day to be outside. The swordsmanship exhibit was really cool! The two people presenting really knew their history and their craft. This was a really fun day trip!

Had my first visit to the Castle Faire this year (January 2025). It is a great setting for a Faire. Being able to walk the walls and climb the towers of the castle was a lot of fun. It was also nice heading into the keep/main hall to warm up, have some food, and watch a performance. The attendees were friendly and easy going. I certainly enjoyed a Faire in the Georgia winter instead of the Georgia summer. Since we were up in the mountains, we did get a bit of snow, which I enjoyed since I don't see a lot of it in my home city. The small size is both a pro and a con. We weren't jammed shoulder to shoulder in the walls of the castle, lines to the shuttles and for food weren't too long, and with smaller audiences, some of the performers engaged more. This was especially true of the Appalachian Sword Club HEMA demonstrations. At the same time, there were fewer performers and venders than I was accustomed to and just not as much to do overall. I had a fun time but was left wanting for more. If you've got a bit of a drive to Helen (it was ~3 hours for us), I'd recommend planning a two-day trip, spending the first day at the faire and using the second day to catch anything you missed the first day, then spending the rest of your time sightseeing in Helen. Overall, I had a good time. Uhuburg Castle Faire is certainly worth a visit if you're into this sort of thing, but don't expect a Faire the size of the Georgia or Carolina Renn Faires.

We enjoyed the tour given by Bob who created the castle over the last 16 years. He gave a tour of the many murals inside the walkways explaining the philosophy of the many religions of the world, showed us the carnivorous and other gardens and an interesting story of the Princess Tree. Loved the views after climbing the towers and the stories behind the statuary. Other docents showed us the inside including the huge room with huge wood beams Bob installed using his ship building experience. The castle and curving tower walls were built into the natural curves of the mountains it sits on.

I think this attraction opened in May but it has been 14 years in the making. Driving up to it in a shuttle bus the castle is huge. Walking around it confirms that thought, it is a two acre venue! The host, and owner, gave a great tour of the castle and told his vision for it. There is a great hall that can be rented or has events on site (for instance, there was a falconry show the day we went). The staff were all friendly and helpful. On the downside, parking is in the woods for now and registration/ticket purchase done is from a folding table in the woods. It's pricey - $35 for adults and to me it wasn't worth the cost. Maybe as they add more components to it, it will be. Parents be warned, there are Greek type statues all over that bare it all! No concessions yet, just bottles of water for $1.

Seventy six dollars after all is said and done and it was a complete waste of time.

Upon arriving you pull into dirt and park your car, then walk over to a woman sitting under a white canopy who makes you pay, 76$ for 2 adults. There is a shuttle that takes you up to the castle. Upon arriving the tour guides greet you and explain everything. There are a couple tours, we jumped into a tour of the murals, our tour guide was smart and sweet but I couldn’t figure out why all the murals were there. It being sold as a German castle, but nothing about it was German all the murals were about religion and different cultures (none at all German).

The grounds absolutely are not completed. There is building materials all over and trying to be hidden, but it’s not done. They are continuing to build and trying to make this thing work, and maybe they can but holy hell it was so boring and a waste of time. The tour guides also were so weird about mentioning the man who made the castle, Bob, there were all these little jokes and facts about Bob. It sort of felt like everyone was drinking the Bob kool-aid. Then a tour of the “great hall” which is literally a large room with wooden beams. Utterly pointless.

Basically paid 76$ for a photo at the top of some make shift castle.

I attended Castlefaire 2025, and it was absolutely amazing! The vendors were top notch, and the grounds were gorgeous. Even on a rainy day the architecture was beautiful to look at, and there was plenty of space to hide from drizzling weather. The parking situation was handled really well for the amount of people attending, and the landscaping of the grounds inside the property made it so that there were no muddy spots that I had to worry about slipping in. You really could feel the attention to detail in everything there- I can't wait to come back in the Spring for one their next events!

We went to Uhuburg in December to see Father Christmas and in January for Castle Faire. Both were incredible events and we have loved every time we have been able to go to the castle! It feels incredibly authentic and you can see the love they put into this endeavor. We plan on staying overnight soon and can't wait to experience the castle in a new way!

The second year of the faire was even more enjoyable than the first! Parking wasn't as much of a nightmare as I thought it would be, the shuttle drivers were amazing. Bob himself drove our return shuttle at the end of the day! We lived that we could go to the highest tower this time!! There's always more to explore than we have time for!

Improvements can be made, of course. I would love to see more food vendors. Especially a booth with some sweets, baked goods, hot chocolate etc! Perhaps more entertainment acts (jousting, skits, a costume photo booth like the old timey ones in Helen), maybe some fireworks at the very end? Or perhaps a castle tour guide? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know more details about the castle!

Uhuburg Castle is a wonderful place and a wonderful experience. From the beautiful statues to the spires and towers, Uhuburg Castle is an experience worth talking about. Colorful murals adorn the walls. The grounds are well maintained and I'm sure they thrive with life in the spring and summer. There's a tropical plant atrium, a working green house, a knight in shining armor and a floor that is supported by POOL NOODLES! The castle is surrounded by a wall just like you would expect a medieval castle should be. The people are very friendly and eager to talk about Uhuburg. From the moment you check in you are made welcome. You can take a guided tour or you can experience the castle on your own. Expect to walk a lot and climb many stairs. We spent almost two hours there. We were told they will soon have 10 rooms to rent. Imagine staying the night in a castle! Uhuburg is a place you do not want to miss.

I bought 3 tickets for my mom, sister, and myself. The cost was $105 TO TOUR THE CASTLE. The only part of the castle that could be "toured" was what they call a great hall, used for parties and events, and the outside covered walkways, as it was pouring rain on the day we booked. The staff member in the great hall walk to the first of a parlor, and said we couldn't go in because we aren't guests of the hotel. We were also told we could peek inside one of the 4 rooms that are currently available for weekend stays, but only if we were y'all enough to see thru the little window.
I think $35 a ticket to walk around outside is a complete waste of money. The website says "much of the tour is outside", eluding to the idea that we would actually see more than 1 room inside the castle. The tour of random murals seemed weird and it of place.

What a wonderful experience! The owner is very kind and takes you around the grounds to see all the murals on the walls and explains what they are about. He also shows you all the beautiful plants, trees, flowers and garden. You can go inside the castle to see the ballroom and tropical conservatory. They have a small area set up inside where you can get Drinks and Snacks and buy some items from their garden. All the prices are very reasonable. I surprised my husband for our Birthdays and Anniversary here. He loved it as much as I did.
