A nice place to train watch.

I am a local, and downtown Folkston is the perfect place if you like to watch trains. There are several per hour going through Folkston.

This is the best place to be. Never a dull moment. Trains come by with 4-5 engines and then some have up to 120 cars.....couldn't get my son to leave!

We took our son by to check it out on a Monday. We were they're 2 hours & saw 6 trains. You can hear the dispatcher talking back & forth with the train crew. It was neat to hear what goes on behind the scenes. It's a covered shelter that has ceiling fans with chairs & picnic tables so take... More

I thought perhaps I would stay at the Inn and read and let my husband watch the trains. I mean, I live in SE England; trains are an everyday thing. But I'm so glad I went down to the viewing platform. If you're lucky you'll get to know some great people (possibly retired rail workers and well-travelled Judges) who can... More

Most towns with 60 trains barreling through everyday would have quite a challenge to find something to boast about but this cute little Georgia town has taken a liability and turned it into an attraction. This platform is suitable to hold about 12-15 people comfortably. The long overhang protects against rain and midday sun. There's even a dozen or so... More

This is fun train watching! Sit under the shelter or at a picnic table and watch freight and passenger trains. Friendly rail fans are usually present. But what is the wifi password? Best action is early morning or early evening.

No sure I knew of any place other than major cities where you could see 60 trains in a 24-hour period. But that's typical in Folkston and it is anything but a major city. The Train Viewing Platform is a nice touch in that it provides an elevated position from which to view, a roof for sun and rain, ceiling... More

Saw this advertised and it is the real thing! There were several people sitting waiting and watching for trains to go by! They were totally equipped with binoculars, beverages, cameras, and enthusiasm waiting for the next train to whiz by. You can spend a minute or hours. Definitely worth the stop if you like the powerful and metal. Enjoyed!

What a brilliant facility! Up to 60 trains a day pass here, it's a photographers delight. The engine drivers all acknowledge you as the pass by while you sit on a covered, raised shelter. We saw the Amtrack, the Amtrack Auto, mail train, Tropicana, and much more. From a 77 year old lady to a group of friends who spent... More
