We arrived on a nice dry day but even that could not make the Garden look good, it was wild and unkept. very little flowers apart from the unkept rose bushes really! lots of Apple trees, with fallen rotten apples everywhere. no unusual plants or trees, actually nothing to see at all. They could have made the Lake area nice but... This castle is a gem and it's well worth taking the guided tour. The rooms are delightful, with original features and the families heirlooms and paintings crammed into this historic monument. The grounds around the castle are worth a visit and tea and cake in the courtyard, delicious and reasonably priced. Our guide was a member of the family so... More

The whole family loved this beautiful quirky castle and elegant gardens. Great tea room too. Spent the whole day.

What an amazing place. We did the tour and had a lovely coffee and sweet treats at the onsite cafe. A wonderful experience not to be missed if your in the carlow region.

Stopped by this castle on the way to another town. I guess we just missed the tour and everyone seemed very busy with an upcoming wedding. No problem, because we really enjoyed walking the grounds. We practically had the place to ourselves. I heard they were going to set up reception tables under the yew trees. What a gorgeous place... More

We visited the castle with our 4 young children. Unlike a lot of other castles, this is a real-life castle that people live in, there were children's toys in the courtyard and dogs. We sat outside for coffee & cakes which were delicious and had great fun with the hens and Percy the Peacock. Our children particularly liked that the... More

Our first stop for our Ireland holiday, and the best! This is an authentic castle with gardens, ghosts, sheep and hospitality! The decor, grounds and host are wonderful. If you're looking for something a bit different this is it. The bistro down the lane for dinner was A+. Ask the host for reservations and a peek in the castle basement!

Was a lovely sunny afternoon when we visited. It's under new management since the lady died so a few things have changed since I saw it last. But a beautiful old building and lovely serene gardens. Cheap to visit and you get a guided tour thrown in, with a bit of history about the place.. Perry the peacock would be... More

We had such a wonderful time at Huntington Castle last week. We stayed one night, had a tour of the castle, and walked through the beautiful gardens. Alex and Clare are wonderful hosts - so welcoming. We really felt like we were staying in a home, albeit one with grand rooms and a very impressive history. The gift shop and tearoom... More

If you want to stay in a castle with amazing history and be treated like one of the family then contact Alex and enjoy your stay. We stayed two nights and felt right at home in our richly appointed rooms (mine had a four poster bed from the 1700's). The castle grounds are a treat and the family pets charming,... More
