This House showcases artifacts, photographs, etc. on the history of the Blue Ridge region, along with a small book shop and local history/genealogy library. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is more of a 'cabinet of curiosities' than an exhibit of history, but that does not detract from being an interesting place. Upstairs are looms and weaving equipment so... More

I have been going to the Tabor House since it was started. It is a good addition to our community. I donated civil war artifices from my family because I know they would serve a purpose here. The people who are there to interpret everything is very knowledgeable. There is ample parking beside the house. It's down town behind the... More

My trip to this museum was great! I really enjoyed how much knowledge our tour guide had. I learned about Gilmer County and it's Cherokee and Civil War History. We have a great history here!

Having grown up here, and being in and out of the Tabor house as a child when it was being lived in by the Tabors, I was a little anxious to see what had been done. But in reality it brought back a lot of memories, plus I learned a great deal about the involvement of Gilmer Co. during the... More

Thanks so much for taking the time to review the Tabor House. We love when locals visit. We have so much to be proud of in our community and the Tabor House gives us a small glimpse into the history of this area. I personally enjoy leading tours with local folks because they teach me as much as I share... More

The idea of a museum is to hopefully have old stuff. I love this museum. So, if you have a little time-I would recommend that you visit the Tabor House and Civil War Museum, in Ellijay, GA. It is near the square--look for the signs.

A wonderful little place to spend an hour or two learning about the history of Gilmer County and the Cherokee Indians. The people who volunteer their take pride in showing off their museum.

Thank you for your review of the Tabor House. We are so sorry that you did not find our little museum informative. The museum is run by volunteers, many of which are retired. However, we have volunteers as young as 7 all the way to our retirees. We have a large variety of artifacts covering thousands of years of local... More

Ok, so for what this was, it was nice. Its a small, free museum in downtown Ellijay. There is some interesting stuff in there but it could use some renovations and some updating. It is interesting, a little irritating that we were followed around like we couldn't be trusted. Overall, nice little piece of history and a good way to... More

Thank you so much for visiting the Tabor House. We appreciate you taking the time to review our little museum. We are very small with big dreams. The museum and historical society rely solely on donations and volunteers and visitors like you. The house was built around 1870 so you are correct, it needs renovations. It is donations from visitors... More

Thanks Goodness they've fought to keep this historic house from being torn down, there is so much history that is lost to parking lots! The venue itself is kept very nice, most of the items in the house have been donated for display. The Tabor house was used as a boarding house back in the 30s and it was interesting... More

Thank you so much for your positive review of the Tabor House. Yes, we are desperately trying to preserve what little history we have left in our small community. As a volunteer myself, I love the old home that the historical society currently resides in and I have learned so much local history as a volunteer. We have quite a... More

The Museum had very few Civil War artifacts. The narrator was very informative as she took us from room to room but I felt she did not know how to interact with others.Thinking it was a Civil War Museum, I was very disappointed in their display. It should be called the War Museum.

So sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit to the Tabor House. We actually have many more artifacts but no place to put them. We are running out of room at our current venue.
