The old bridge was built across Moovattupuzha by the Diwan of Travancore in 1914 under the supervision of a British Engineer and I have heard from my Grand father that during the inauguration the engineer stood below the bridge while twelve elephants were made to walk through the bridge to convince the public about the strength and durability of the bridge. The bridge is also believed to be the first concrete bridge in Asia. In 1970's the new bridge was constructed and the traffic was diverted through the new one.

You can drive through this bridge while travelling via Muvattupuzha. New bridge is built near the old one to reduce the traffic through old bridge. Not much to offer for the visitors.

The ride on this bridge was enjoyable. I was told that this bridge is Asia's oldest concrete bridge.

Asia's First Concrete Bridge Muvattupuzha, the beautiful town in Ernakulam district has many specialties. The nature itself creates magic and make us forget all the hustles and bustles of your busy life. Muvattupuzha is also blessed with high ranges, which makes you feel that you are lost at some hill stations.
