Decatur is a small town in the middle of a big town (Atlanta)

Quaint downtown Decatur revolves around 'the square' with great people-watching, shopping, stopping, strolling and eating.

Nice Sunday afternoon stroll with my grandchild. We enjoyed looking at all the history around Decatur's Square. It was great to have a nice place to walk around after brunch.

Downtown Decatur, the square in particular is still a slower paced taste of a small town feel. There are places to sit and relax, easy walks, shady spots to sit a while and overall a good downtown feel. You can access most all of the shops and restaurants very easily and parking is not too bad. The arts festival, in... More

The square is a nice amenity for people living in the area but not a place to go to on purpose. A very nice large sculpture in it.

The square in Decatur has outdoor dining. Shops. Public space. Public transportation. It is a fun place to go on a Friday night. Or a Saturday morning. We don't have many places in Atlanta that are reminiscent of Santa Ana Square in Madrid - or in feeling or flavor to any of a hundred similar all over Europe. This one... More

Sharing a summer evening with my wife was a pleasure. The square is flanked by trendy restaurants and shops, and there are numerous parking options nearby ($5-$7). Few places near Atlanta are as walkable, and there is ready access to the train (MARTA station Decatur). People watching opportunities abound.

Whenever I eat in Decatur, I always walk through the square for a little while. There is frequently live music, or some activity going on. It is a vibrant area thanks to all of the terrific restaurants surrounding it.

It had been more than 15 years since I visited Decatur so I was really surprised and pleased with what I found. Over the course of our two day business trip we had drinks and/or meals at four of the cafe's, bars and coffee shops. The weather was great and ambience excellent. I'll be back.

Thank Phil H
