Pleasant walk
Dec 2020 • Couples
This is more of a walk than a hike but it’s a beautiful walk. You follow the edge of the lake. Cross over a few streams. Great way to spend a few hours in nature.

Don’t judge the trail
Jun 2020 • Friends
The trail seems like it’s going to be along a highway all the way but it’s actually a very nice wooded trail with steep sections. Wear your hiking boots and bring sticks. It does however say it’s a loop trail which it is but the last portion around the lake actually is along the semi busy road. You are able to hop over the guard rail and walk in the grass but one section you can’t. That being said it’s still a very nice trail around the lake but a little disappointing at the end because of the road. If you wanted to you can turn around and go back through woods for a good 6 miler. The bonus is the pretty lake with ducks that will eat out of your hand. Bring some duck food or have lunch at the picnic area right next to the parking lot.

Lake Zwerner trail
Jan 2020 • Couples
Pleasant walk, quiet, well marked trail, with our dog. Some steep parts which might be difficult for some. Saw a pig in a red sweater on a walk! Parking is free and well appointed. Only one negative point is that the trail isn’t quite a complete loop and to get back to the car you need to walk along the road over a bridge. Dog and pig were fine.

4 miles total - lovely lake views
Oct 2019 • Couples
The actual trail is 3.2 miles and takes around 1.5 hours, but then there’s an additional .8 mile stretch along the road to get back to your car. Some recommended hiking boots, but we were fine in tennis shoes. Saw some deer in the woods and geese by the water. Port-a-potty and outhouse near the end of the trail. Many benches along the way. Some mild hills but nothing steep. No trash disposal along the way.

Quality Family Hike
Feb 2019 • Family
Walked the trail today with my daughter, her husband and my four year old
Granddaughter. It was our first visit to the Lake Zwerner Trail. This 3.2 mile trail winds around the lake through the woods(There are some isolated areas so I would not recommend walking in those areas alone if you are female). This trail is rated moderate and that’s because there are several challenging steep hills that will get your heart pumping. It is dirt, clay, uneven, and some parts are rocky with exposed roots so I recommend you wear a good pair of hiking boots. There are bench swings along the trail as well as benches by the lake where you can rest, relax, and watch the ducks or the geese. There are no facilities except for a Porta Potty at a picnic area near the dam. FYI...be aware that there is a very short stretch of trail that runs along the busy highway. Overall we had a great experience. Got our exercise in a very peaceful and relaxing environment. A real plus is it’s located less than a mile from the University of North Georgia campus. Two parking areas; Dog friendly; canoes or kayaks are allowed on the lake.

This is a GREAT trail for walking and running
May 2018 • Family
The trail circles the reservoir and offers several challenging hills for fitness walking and running. The views are gorgeous, with interesting things to see with each new season.

Beautiful Place

This place is gorgeous and I love doing runs or walks here. The trails are well maintained and it is clean. The only thing I would say is if you are female take someone with you because there are some very secluded spots.

Nice hike
Jul 2018 • Couples
This is not a casual walk in the woods! There are several steep hills that we get your heart pumping. By reading other reviews, we wore hiking boots and were prepared for the trail. The trail is crushed rock, pressed red clay and sometimes smooth sometimes rocky terrain. There are benches to sit to look at the lake and a porta potty at the dam. There several people using the trail, hiking, running and strolling. Overall, we liked the hike very much and would recommend it.
