Welcome to naturum Tåkern, a modern visitors center located at the shore of lake Tåkern, one of northern Europe’s most pristine and well renowned bird reserves!

We offer guided tours of different themes, an exhibition about lake Tåkern and we welcome you to look at animals and plants in our laboratory. Watch the 14-minute-long movie about Tåkern (in English) or just have a coffee by the panorama window in front of the vast reed beds and breeding colonies of black-headed gull and common tern.

Take a stroll on the nearby wetland pasture accompanied by lapwings and marsh harriers. We have a three story high bird tower and walking trails around the area.

Welcome!

We started with a snack on the terass outside where the kids could run around and look into the pond for salamanders. After the snack we went inside. We could have stayed inside for several hours! The kids used the binoculars observing the wild life outside. There are plenty of educational stands for every age. We also saw the movie... More

The movie in the nature center is well worth watching; ask for it in English is helpful. The preserve provides great views, comfortable walks, and interactive activities for kids. All nature lovers will enjoy this bird sanctuary. There are fun souvenirs to be had.

I cannot say that we expected much of the visit to Tåkern. But 10 seconds after entering the "Naturum" we were welcomed by a young woman, Hanna. She asked if we wanted some information. We usually want to seek information ourselves, but OK we gave her a chance. And Hanna was so knowledgeable and informed us in a very gentle... More

A great attraction for all ages. Begin with the information center "Naturum", well worth a visit for the whole family with films and displays describing what animals and birds you can observe around the lake. Follow the trails across fields and through the reeds to hideouts where birds can be observed without disturbing them, and there is also a trail... More

This site gives a very good view of the lake and it's rich bird life. There is an observation tower and walking paths. The exhibit is interesting and educational.

Walk the trails and visit the exhibition and wonder by the marvelous building clad in reed. A bird watchers Mecca. A hostel nearby offers great lunch and accommodation.

We didn't watch the birds or went into the building itself but I guess that is quite nice as well. We planned this as a side trip on a long road trip with two small children. It's just about 10 min from the highway. They have a 700m path which children (and grown ups!) can explore. Spot the animals! And... More

Regardless if you are interested in birds or not; visit Tåkarn. Amazing and very nicely build place. Opened in 2012 by our king. See the 15 minutes film describing the history and current fauna. A must

Its a lovely spot to spend some time at. My kids love to go here and look at all the birds. You can come close to the birds if you have patience and sit still for a while. That is a challange if you are five years old, but my son he made it. Bring a binocular and you can... More

We stumbled upon this place by accident after visiting some nearby places. We were pleasantly surprised by this place. It has such amazing views and is a great place to learn something new. It seems like this would also be a good place to bring children. The tourist center is aimed at kids and there' also an interactive hiking route... More
