This park has lots of potential, especially if you like hiking and exploring. The summer heat is intense, but if we had visited in the fall, it would have been easy to spend several hours just exploring and hiking. Lots of interesting formations because of the flat rocks and natural features. My husband & I would love to come back and truly explore when it’s cooler weather. The disc golf course didn’t look well kept though, neither did the small playground for kids. Hopefully this is something that will be addressed because otherwise those would have been nice features. I realize we may have just come at a bad time, though. There were also lots of picnic tables scattered all around the park, so there’s plenty of room to picnic (though you’ll want to wipe down tables or bring a tablecloth).
There is a creek that runs over the rocks in a type of gradual waterfall, and I read reviews where you could splash and even swim in parts of the creek. A word of caution, though. The rocks are really slippery, and once your feet get wet, they hit the algae growing on the rocks and down you slide. Even the dry rocks are slippery if you touch with wet feet/shoes. There were people swimming in one small section that was deep enough to swim in, but it was crowded, and honestly the water looked more like a deep mud puddle. I didn’t feel comfortable submerging our bodies in there. But under different circumstances I wouldn’t have had as much reservation to do so.
Not a great place to take toddler-aged children or anyone who has trouble walking unassisted unless you just want to stay near the parking area to picnic or walk along the road. You could easily make it to the playground with young kids, but it’s not shaded, so in high summer heat and with the equipment not in the best kept shape, you’d prob want to look elsewhere for that.
But to hike and explore and picnic (there’s even a bike trail), this park really is a gem.

I loved this park! From the moment you drive you you'll see small waterfalls on your right side, trails and playgrounds on the left. Driving through the park it's lots of turns and only one way but it's just beautiful. We loved turning sharp right to go to a playground and the bottom of the watery rocks. Those rocks ARE VERY SLIPPERY, so please be careful. We really enjoyed sitting in the water. You can walk all around the park to possibly find painted rocks. Lots of places to sit, plenty of trash cans so please dispose of it properly. Grills and fire pits. Finish it off with a line in the water at the huge pond.

The rocks are beautiful. The trail to the lake is not really marked that well if there is one? We followed the road to the lake. The grounds are natural with no real landscaping. It is definitely worth seeing. The water level was low.

City leaders have a way of purposely letting things go around town and using tax dollars on an unlevel playfield to benefit the few.
This has been going on since the early 70's and whoever come up with "we do amazing" I certainly hope was not paid for that study either!!
This park is ready made for what could be the flagship park for citizens of Columbus but sadly all the money is being sunk in a last ditch effort to draw suckers....I mean tourists to uptown.
As usual if citizens decide to get involved in upgrading Flatrock the city will quickly join in to cut ribbons and take credit for it....

The creek, rocks, etc. were so much fun to play in. We had a puppy with us and it was a great first interaction with water. Fun for all ages. So many picnic areas available and overall just a fun place to visit.
However, the disc golf course was just fair. Second 9 are much better than front 9.

Happened upon this place by accident. So happy we stopped. Nice paved walk or biking. Walking out onto the rocks was fun. Would make a wonderful day walk or bike. We enjoyed it very much.

Went here on a whim to just get out side. It was totally worth it. Water was cold but it was refreshing. My 15yo loved sliding down the rocks. Just be careful the rocks are very slippery, but that makes it fun for the kids. Park was beautiful, great place to hike, picnic, disk golf and bike. We will be coming back again when we visit Columbus again.

It was nice to walk around and see the sights. Fishing at the lake was a dud. The walk down the creek could have used some maintenance since a lot of it was overgrown and trash strewn but still nice overall.

When we first moved here 4 years ago we loved this park. We frequently took our children there, and enjoyed going on the mountain bike trails. However, it sadly seems to be going downhill fast, and the city doesn't take care of it at all. The bathrooms are disgusting. The last time we were there the toilet was full and overflowing onto the floor. The park itself has trash everywhere. Not too long ago there was a body found in the park, while they were investigating that murder, they found an older body in the woods. During that investigation the city reported that they don't have police patrol the park, that there isn't enough my net to. I know several people personally that have had their vehicles broken into. It's such a shame that the city has allowed this beautiful park to become such an unsafe, unkempt place.

I grew up in the area of Flat Rock Park, and just read these positive reviews. They made me laugh..
The Park is nothing like it used to be. It's run down and un kept. People who utilized the park during the 70's and 80's will understand. The city spends no money to upkeep or improve this park. There used to be a boat house for rental boats. The road to the boathouse area is washed out and unaccable. The concessions store in the park has been long gone. The large gathering hall that was across from concessions is also gone. The creek that feeds into the lake is overtaken with brush and weeds. And many dead trees throughout the park. The city once kept the park clean using jailed work crews. Many covered picnic area's are in disrepair. It's a disgrace to see what was once a beautiful park has become. And the city of Columbus is 100% to blame. There is more residential and economic growth in this area than ever before, and why the city doesn't improve the park is beyond me. Shame on the city of Columbus, GA, And those entrusted to care for the park. I suspect the review will not be posted or may even be removed because of it's honesty.

Does it cost anything to have a photography session here?

I didn't see any restrictions that said you couldn't.

Yes, dogs are allowed. When we were there, people were out all over walking their dogs. It's a great park for families & pets.

Are there public restrooms for the children? Coming from Peach Tree Mall, where do you turn off Manchester Express Way? Thanks Alma
Written May 4, 2016
Coming out of the mall at any light, you would take a left on Manchester Expwy/US 27. Get onto Warm Springs Rd. exit. Get in any left lane to take left on warm springs rd connector (still on warms springs rd). Take it out until you see signs. Take right and you'll take a right into the park. Yes, there are public restrooms and playgrounds.

Are there grills to cook out on?
Written November 12, 2015
There are a few near the pavillions. When you first come in the park you will see small stone "huts" each of those have a grill as well as by the Pavillion and there is a long row of picnic tables by the water that has one. Bring tin foil for sure and possibly another grate if you have one they are park grills and nasty but use able with foil
